Not that anyone particularly cares, but I'm on Martha's side--don't think this should have come to trial at all, I think it's a misuse of the system.

Well, I haven't really given Martha's plight much thought, but I guess I have no problem with it going to trial. If she hasn't done anything illegal then it's a chance for her to clear her name and if she has, then she knew the risk when she took it and should be willing to do her time. Regardless of where I stand (or don't) on the Martha issue, you did a great job of giving a voice to the "leave her alone, already, you jackals" (my interpretation -- and it's what made me grin as I read the parody) side of it and I particularly liked the song you chose to do it. Very nice job, Royce!

Well, her guilt or innocence aside (which I presume will be decided correctly in a court of law) I think she is an 'evil' woman. She is probably responsible for half the women today on prozac - making the average women feel inadequate when they find they can't 'do it all...' Off my soapbox now, this is a good parody.

You've got a point, Royce - I think Martha's celebrity has definitely affected how things are proceeding in "the system". Hopefully the truth will out and everybody will be at peace with it.

Thanks for the comments, friends--just wanted to know what people thought of this--Johnny, I can't help but notice that celebrity stuff is in our faces these days-like Oprah Winfrey having to go to trial just for something she said, like free speech is a thing of the past? She fought back and won-but should not have had to endure it in the first place.

Royce, good parody. 5-5-5 - Not sure how I stand on this completely, Stewart was no babe in the woods when it comes to Securities; she was a stock broker or analyst (not entirely positive which one) before she was "Martha Stewart, Lifestyle Guru" or whatever, so she should have been aware of Securities Laws. IF she did what the Government alleges it was illegal and prosecution is appropriate. That said, I think part of this prosecution (the largest part) is based on her celebrity status and the desire to "make an example" of a well-known person. If that's why this is going to trial that is wrong. If Stewart was guilty and she has been offered any sort of a reasonable deal she should have taken it and whatever small lumps would have come with it. So it would depend on all those circumstances whether it would seem appropriate to me for a trial to be going forward. So the jury will decide (if it really goes that far); that's why we have them, to listen to the evidence and decide. Time will tell.

Frankly it smacks of putting ones heroes (and heroines) up onto unreally high pedestals, just so that their fall is even more dramatic... I've no idea whether she did anything worth being sent to jail for, but if she did, then she should serve her time irrespective of whether she's a celeb or not. I guess in an ideal world, these sorts of arrests would never be reported until a verdict has been reached.

But it was a very good parody on the subject...
