There's an election coming on this side of the pond - if you've no interest in UK elections, please don't show up and post some inane comment about not being interested in UK elections - I really don't need to be told how parochial some people are.

The last few years have been something a little bit different in UK politics, we've had a coalition government. In one respect, you could say the experiment was a success, in that we've had stable government that has largely been able to govern without having its bills voted down; on the other hand, there is very likely to be one hell of a backlash against the LibDems for enabling one of the most toxic governments we've seen, a government that has done all sorts of things that were in neither party's manifesto, and not very well, either.

Hey Phil, I wish I had a like button for your opening comment, amen to that. Whilst I do not recognise some of the players in your parody, again, like your other one today, it is not necessary to understand the concepts. In Aus we also have the Westminster system and as well, a coalition government. Not my cup of tea, i must say, presently I have the dubious honour of effectively having to work for them, as one of their faithful servants. Anyway, back to your parody, good job, and may May bring you cheer, come what may.

Hi Pippin - last UKIP-related parody I posted had a "that's not American politics, we're not interested" sort of comment. But I see that the same parochial pipsqueak has revisited his voting habits.

Leough - there is method in my madness: I'm going to be performing these in character (as Riff Raff) at a RHPS-themed comedy night in April; I've also got some political/satirical shows coming up (including a pre-election special I'm running myself), so they'll get a bit more of an airing.

So Phil, you make a living performing your own parodies onstage? I sometimes wonder if i could entertain people with some of the things I've written. Any thoughts?

Make a living? I wish :-) Though you're the second person in as many days to think I might.. I break even, just about - some gigs pay a few quid, which subsidizes the travel getting to gigs that I don't get paid for. But there's progress, so who knows what might happen over the next few years..

One thing I've noticed is what works best on the page is not generally what gets the best reaction in front of an audience: some of my most popular material live seems more than a little bit weak here, and vice versa. Give it a try, though, and don't be surprised if something you thought was a killer only gets a polite clap, yet a song that nobody looked twice at here brings the house down.
