Parody Song Title:

"Saline"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

I am saline, I am saline, taste me in – corn-ed beef
I am saline, salty waters – if you’re shipwrecked, don’t drink me!

No denying, you’ll be dying if in thirst guzzle brine
Alkaline-y, chunder, no doubt - if, up, drink you, you will see!

Can you steer three? On a queer sea? On Atlantic’s salty waves
Chris is trying for Indies plying, pepper add to salt he craves

Are they seen, these, histamine-ys, run amok nights, and all day?
Feel like dying, spray nose in trying: to relieve goo, saline way

Lot is wailing, wifey’s failing: turned again Sod’ to see
Now she’s saline; grainy piller, did not heed Jove, forward flee

On board do be feared goo: saliney
Ack! Snored! To be clear through olfact’ry
Oh Lord, didn’t hear you, now stoned be
Fun lore...

All good parodies should be taken with a grain of salt. I liked the broad scope of this: the ocean, condiments, chemistry, medication, biblical ... perhaps the advantage of working as a team. Don't tell me - 'chunder' was one of Merry's? I didn't get the Chris/Indies ref.

Quibbles: Does the phrase 'if up drink you' need commas? I tend to be a minimalist in verse form, but that's just me. I'm not sure Sod' really stands up well for Sodom, though I got it. Isn't Jove an alt for Jupiter rather than Jehovah? For 'piller' read 'pillar'. Not trying to be pedantic, just helpful. Also, the OS link you chose was rather poor quality. There were better ones there.

Merry: Eat concrete and harden up :)

LL: Chunder is an Aussie-ism! Or are you coming the raw prawn with me? :)

LL: Chris/Indies: Columbus sailing to the East Indies in search of pepper, finds a sea full of salt instead. Also manages to crash into large object now known as America, and, like James Cook* just under 300 years later, gets major credit despite not really having been the first by any means.

*For all Yanks reading who were not aware, James Cook is generally regarded as Australia's Columbus.

Thanks for edification, Pip. Columbus of course, my dopy bad. Do you know he never even knew the mainland existed, making two trips to Hispaniola (landing in what is now Dominican Republic) and died thinking he'd reached the East Indies? But he lived long enough to see the native Caribs decimated.
Yes I was coming the old uncooked crustacean, as Bazza McKenzie would say. But I recalled how well-schooled Merry was in Aussie-isms

Great work here. First two lines are a testament to syllable and phrase matching. Especially enjoyed 'corn-ed beef' and 'Alkaline-y'

Glen: Thank you :) Doing inventive things with words is part of the fun!

LL: I am not sure if I ever specifically discussed the technicolour yawn with Merry. She is pretty cluey though, may have already known it on her own!
