Simon & Garfunkel

Parody Song Title:

"I'd Rather Be Tom's Baby Than A Snail"

Parody Written by:

Stuart McArthur

The Lyrics

In some situations you absolutely need the power of positive thinking
I'd rather be Tom's baby than a snail
yes I would
if I could
I surely would
(mm mm-mm)

I'd rather live with Tom than with Dan Quayle
yes I would
it'll be so goo-ood!
I truly would!
(mm mm-mm)

There's heaps...of worse things I could be-e-e
like a wart
or a dead flea
My life's...not ruined yet, you see
oh-no, not aut-
omatic'ly
not 'til I'm three
(mm mm-mm)

I'd rather be quite wealthy than quite sane
yes I would
it's a good
good livelihood

I'd rather have Tom messing with my brain
yes I would
if I only could

okay wait, lemme think

Seems awfully well crafted... I'm probably just dense, but who(m) is the 'Tom' you're referring to? Is this political? TJC (tentorium just cquit)

TJC, the best I can do with that is "Justice follows in a tent." Can you help the dilLatintte a little?
Stuart McArthur - April 26, 2006 - Report this comment
thanks TT - no, rest assured this is about Tom Cruise's new baby, the brilliantly described tomkitten, and the future that inevitably awaits the poor child, and I second your query to TJC

thanks Rick, alvin and TJC - all your questions I've answered in the previous paragraph

looking forward to yours AFW...and spot on, Dee, absolutely a tough call :-)

After reading the comments, I am fascinated and enlightened. Well, not really, but I know what you're talkin' about. Funny, 555,

TJC: "Who". See discussion of "copulative verbs" at Stuart's parody, "My Name Is Tommy...(Turtle)". http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/suzannevega22.shtml.
The sentence in question, un-questioned and without the prep phrase that doesn't matter, is "Tom is who?" After "is", the object "who" takes the subjective case, rather than the objective case that it would take after other (non-copulative) verbs, as in "Whom do you trust" (You do trust whom?)

While you are there, don't miss the discussion of how quadripedantic this Turtle can be at times, as you have seen amply. I think Stuart is still my friend anyway... maybe...

Wow, indeed a tough call that requires further review..hmm, I don't know - indoctrination into Scientology is probably worse than living your life as a snail. 5s.
Who Wrote ThaT? WriTTen By Whom? - April 27, 2006 - Report this comment
Confusing the issue, the prepositional phrase would take "whom" if one indeed doesn't end the sentence with a preposition: "Who is the Tom to whom you are referring?" (.... You are referring to whom) ... subject is You, verb Refer(ring), object Whom. Ok, enough.... Stu, feel free to have this deleted. - TT
