The Lyrics

Well, I'm delving back into Steely Dan's 1st Album, "Can't Buy A Thrill" for this one. That's a great album - I just listened to a cassette tape I made of it back in 1978 and it stills sounds great! Now, about this parody. The Iraqi prison scandal, while disgusting, has been quite illuminating in certain ways. President Bush was told about the abuse back in January but never saw fit to say anything about it until PICTURES of the abuse came out much later. NOW he's outraged...and blaming it all on a few miscreants who happened to be shown doing miserable stuff in the pictures. But Dubyah had been informed by the Red Cross numerous times earlier of extensive mistreatment that was going on in these prisons and never lifted a finger or spoke out against it. Now he seems prepared to jettison some low-level soldiers, issue a few righteous, ringing condemnations and wash his hands of any responsibility. Doesn't wash with me...how about you?
In Iraq; seems the prisoner's we mistreat
Now I need to find somebody
who will take the blame for me
We'll put flunkies in the grinder
And make sure they take the rap
We will televise the whole thing
Hope folks fall for all our crap

(Chorus #1)
Found some fools to take the hurt; it works
Oh, yeah
Rummy made the rules up for these jerks
Too bad
I would hate to lose all of the perks
I have

(Instrumental break - including saxophone solo)

Prosecute them, hope my failures are ignored
Make sure we have the "right" jury
So their chances will be poor
Cause my ass is in a corner
Can't believe a word I say
I've reduced Iraq to rubble
But I won't take any blame

(Chorus #2)
Make examples of some lowly clerks
Oh, yeah
I'll condemn their actions with a smirk
You bet
I will sacrifice these crummy serfs
I'm mad

(Repeat Chorus #1 and then Chorus #2 - to fade)

The Dan - one of my favs - a great album (although the Asia album is the one I wore out). Let's make America America again - vote Kerry in November and hope these liars, cheats, thieves and murderers don't figure out some means of stealing the election again. Haven't we impeached for less?

I don't know the original very well, but I read it anyway because I can't stand Bush. Also, I vote 5-5-5 on it.

Yes, a marvelous album. You're right on with the parody. This crap originated at the top and they stage trials for the soldiers who were ordered to do this. This is what you get when an unbalanced violent fool is the most powerful individual on Earth. Sickening.

Jack W, Johnny D, Robert Pag, Serafina, Macphisto, Alvin & Jay W: Thank you all. I hadn't been on the site all day so it was a nice surprise this was well received. The comments show I am not alone in my perception of the Bushoids. I AM concerned about the Electoral situation. These guys do not believe in the legitimacy of the system and therefore would have no hesitation playing it if they are able to - and they will tie you up in procedures if YOU believe in it and follow the rules - and then promptly walk in and sit down in the Oval Office and take over whilst you sit there with your thumb up your *ss.
