The Lyrics

Our entry for the Australiana Parody Contest...
Struck 'round and cleft a brain, his armour ain't no-fail
Beknighted nearly, 'cus the spikes his head impale

I'll endeavor just to free my mace again
I can't sever limbs with glee when mace appends

Can't spar and whack free, when attack's-caught in bone groove
Parry an' blood goes splat, see, now weapon's trapped in goo

I'll endeavor just to free my mace again
I can't sever limbs with glee when mace appends

I clout you bleary - your blood from face does flow
Fate turned bizarre - mace seemed glued and so:

I'll endeavor just to free my mace again
I'll endeavor just to free my mace again

I've got to lop and shear: dice-skulling is a high
Ball's stuck tight in the cran-ium - release ain't nigh

I'll endeavor just to free my mace again
Got no leverage to seize my mace's end

Crapped out your memory, hacked sublimely through your brain
I need my axe sir, so my killing spree's maintained

I'll endeavor just to free my mace again
I'll endeavor just to free my mace again
I can't sever limbs with glee when mace appends
Oh my clever battle-ry displaced again...
Will I never get to cleave apace again?
I'll squelch ever' enemy if mace loos-ens
I won't ever see my mace disgraced, my friend!

I'll endeavor just to free my mace again!

I'll endeavor just to free my mace again!
If I'm clever, mace will grace your face again!
And forever, I will purge your race of men....
I'll endeavor just to free my mace again!

"I can't sever limbs with glee when mace appends" -sublime M and P - odd that you should know this tune, Pippin - just rooting through your old angelic Skyhooks albums? - 555 :-)

In all truth, it was Merry's suggestion! Unless of course you are inferring something else...!

No! I'm pleased! the Angels deserve to be better known outside Oz - I reckon their songs have gotten better with time

LOVE the Angels and you've done an outstanding job (as usual) with this ! As Stuart said, they deserve to be better known outside Oz ! By the by, I've heard you're actually a closet Sherbet fan Pippin.....or is that Merry ....??? hee hee ;-)

You two certainly did not lose any face over this one.

Q. Why was the leper's hockey game called?
A. Someone had a face off in the corner.

In my collection, I have a video tape of the Angels performing this OS live on TV - there's a moment when they cut to Doc Neeson's face at its most contorted, and he is one brain-addled dude

In that case, you would be aware of the extra words involved with the "crowd participation" live version! Couldn't work it into the parody unforunately!

ha ha, Pippin! Many times I saw them live (even booked them myself for our university college ball way back then) and of course it was those "extra" words that were the only words everybody knew - and still are - I was wondering if you were going to have a stab at them (altho the naive pacing police might have jumped on you) - btw on second reading of your parody I like it even more :-)

No way, get f***ed, f*** off!...Classic, M&P. You've gotten all the Aussies on the site feeling nostalgic. And a great parody, to boot. 555

(Aust comp) I've already commenetd twice in this thread, so will keep it short - VERY clever (tried to come up with a parody for THAT line, but also couldn't)

D'Oh... how well do I know that feeling of having one's mace caught in some inconsiderate knight's grey matter? Loved the "beknighted" play on words, too :-)

(Aust comp) It took me a few lines to realise which mace you were referring too, your skill in rhymes was almost overwhelming. Centrifugal force exerted into my skull shatters it to 555 pieces.

The Angels song is actually a rip off of a Status Quo song they issued as a B side in about 1972. It was called Lonely Night and contained the same intro, melody and chorus. Even some of the words were hardly changed by the Angels!

Hmm... not bad- 555! Anciet weapons are cool. I prefer the European Two-Handed sword, the Scottish Claymore, The English Bullet Crossbow, both the European Steel Mace (c.1520) and Indian Steelhand Mace (c.19th century), the Indian Katar, and various Int. Battleaxes. Roman Gladius and Pilum were wicked too for the time :)

Thanks Rob! Yes, the two handed sword was cool. I remember it from the Dungeon Masters' manuals heh heh. As for maces, I had a friend who worked in a small outdoorsman sort of shop, and she was getting quite a few woman coming in and asking for 'mace'. She decided to order some, went thru the catalog (no photos) and decided 10 cans would be good for a start. She checked '10' in the catalog, and about a week later this heavy box arrived, with 10 spiky things! :-D
