the Bee Gees

Parody Song Title:

The Lyrics

Well, this is one of those "hybrid-combo" parodies. The music/melody from "I Started A Joke" combined with much of the lyric content/meaning of Brewer & Shipley's wonderful "One Toke Over The Line" from way back in the early 70'sBTW – hop into your time machine to really get into this oneour "protagonist" here is a College Freshman from that era heading home after that first Semesteryeah - away from home for the very first timeOH...yeah...this happens to be Amiright.com Post #300 for me...in case you are the sentimental type...lol

[During Instrumental Intro]
~ ~ (Bought some dope – smoke that dope – toke some dope – toke, toke, toke – toke some dope – dope, I smoke – toke on dope) ~ ~

I just took a toke
I'm over the line, Sweet Jesus (oh-oh)
That toke's in my brain (okie-doke)
As I wait for the traaay-yaay-yaain

I wait for that train
That's taking me home, Sweet Mary (oh-home)
Hope that train's not delayed (I say)
I've been waiting all day

Girls – they did surprise
View 'tween their thighs
Sure opened my eyes
And I learned stuff in bed
Something called "head"
For now left unsaid

Still I wait for train ride
I'm starting to have misgivings (oh, no)
Guess I'll have one more toke (okie-doke)
Jesus, I'm one stoned bloke

Train – I do not see
Three hours late; where could it be?
And I sit here so spaced
Man, I'm sh*t-faced
I've been laid to waste

Hey, now here comes that train
To take me back home, Sweet Jesus (ho-oh-ome)
Oops! I fell off my feet (on my seat)
Musta toked too much weed (oh-oh-oh)
Damn, that train just passed meeeeeeeJeeeeeeeeez
D'oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

And here's to you, Mr. Robinson, Jesus loves you and your song, you know, whoa whoa whoa. (Oh, come on, it was obvious.) I love merged parodies. (At least, that's what I call 'em.)

Nice mashup, smoosh, blener, whatever. It really takes me back to a time that, well, I can't really remember, man ;-)

JB, alvin & MasonR -- Thanks...Mason - me neither, really...You know, when I was submitting this I was thinking - how about the BeeGees doing "the Beegees sing Brewer & Shipley"...covering the duo's best songs...lol...but they(Brewer & Shipley) really did have a lot of very good stuff over the many years - I was a big fan ~ ~ ~

Excellent merger! I used to sing the Brewer and Shipley OS with one of my early bands. 555

Thanks, Rick C...always loved Brewer & Shipley, right from the first notes on their "Weeds" album (I didn't know they had an earlier album out on A&M...it's not anywhere near the album "Weeds" is, but it's not a bad piece of work, really.

Brilliant, Paul, 555. It's just one more piece of evidence that you truly have a parody-writing gift. YOU POOR BASTARD !!!! ;-) :-D

Primo stuff.

There were 'open thighs' and 'head' in Brewer and Shipley's OS? Now I understand why there was such a controversy about it... ;-)

Thanks, JD, Larry H and Mer...JD - did you ever see the Saturday Live skit with Bill Murray (I think) as a Lounge Singer...performing his unique version of Jethro Tull's "Aqualung"? I was kind of thinking a bit of that when I wrote this piece. Mer - well, there is a part in the OS that goes "I met all the girls, and I loved myself a few/and to my surprise/like everything else that I've been through/it opened up my eyes." So I took a bit of liberty with that section and, uh, expanded on it ~ ~ ~
