The Lyrics

Hello, I came across this site just a few days ago. After being enormously entertained and inspired by the parodies here, I decided to have a go at one of my own. Since I'm a teacher, I couldn't resist an "education" angle.
Intro:

Buh buh buh buh buh bored!
(Buh buh buh buh buh bored!)

Song:

My high school’s such a drag, man
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
“I before E except after C”
And why two plus two makes four

No, no, no, ain’t no one can teach me
(teach me, teach me)
Nothin’ I don’t know
(nothin’ I don’t know)
Gonna sneak out to the street
All I gotta do is wait the bell rings.

Tru-ancy
Easy as 123
Don’t need a dumb degree
I’ll break free
Maybe see
‘bout a GED, yeah.

Tru-ancy
Teachers are mean to me
They all be racist, see
Look at the
S.A.T.
If you don’t believe it.

Never have to work even a - little bit!
(Never have to work even a – little bit!)
I’m a-gonna to teach you how to play it out!
Come on, come on, come on
that’s what Social Aid is all about!

Reading, writing and arithmetic
Are the branches of the learning tree
But I don’t have to climb,
‘Cause I’m on the dime
I get federal sub-si-dies

m-m-My fam-i-ly’s on welfare
(welfare, welfare)
Get it every day
(nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!)
Don’t need – school -
To be cool
Just hang with my homies, drinkin’ beer, shootin’ pool

Won’t see me
Go to no li-brar-y
I’d rather watch TV,
Play my Wii
Rock my iPod MP3s, now.

Tru-ancy, it’s easy
No more comp or poetry
Math and science ain’t for me
Look how easy life can be!
Look how easy life can be!
I get everything for free
USA-
You owe me!

(Yeah!)

Bridge:
But wait, girl!
I think I’ve got it!
Yo!
Need dough, girl?
Here’s somethin you can do!

Well…

Gotta have a baby, come on now!
If you have a baby, ooo oooh!
Money for the baby, Yeah!
123 babies, oo ooo
456 babies, na na!
789 babies, whoo!
That’s how easy life can be.

Tru-ancy, it’s easy
Just like dropping out’ll be
Singin “No more rules for me”
That’s how easy life can be!

I’m a-gonna teach you how to- play it out
Play it out (oh!)
Play it out (oh!)
Play it out (oh!)
Tru-ancy, it’s easy
Just like dropping out’ll be... (fade)

Terribly politically incorrect; makes a mockery of everything that patellically-reflexive liberals from LBJ's Great Society to Great and Powerful Oz, the Obamessaih, have worked so hard to not accomplish.

In other words, I loved it.

*The* Great and Powerful Oz, the *Obamessiah*,
came threw with some typos. But a parody this coming Tuesday might shed some light on that, so to speak.

@SATtire: Thank you. Why it is that, the more ineffective a program is, the bigger the government makes it? It's a mystery to me. BTW, just want to let you know how much I appreciate and value your comments and opinions on here. And how much I giggle at your parodies! :)

The belief that any problem can be cured by throwing (our) tax money at it, and if it isn't working, you throw even more. The opposite of sound business strategy, but sort of like our plan for Vista&trade.

Thanks for the kind comments. Not everyone is so appreciative of helpful suggestions, but the last noob who was, became one of AIR's absolute top-notch parodists. I take no credit for the diamond, only for polishing the edges. I see another diamond worth polishing. If she doesn't mind a little grinding (teehee) here and there, the same outcome is certain.

btw, very few writers are worth this writer's efforts, if that means anything. Giggle on, Sinned-her-Ella!

Thanks, Mark S! Laughing at your jokes *is* easy as ABC!

Yes, and we also saw that he skewered -- I mean, libeled -- our Vista™ system only two days before your arrival here:

Our lawyers have noticed him of our intent to sue. We understand that he has been working on his defense for quite a while, and hopes to be able to present it to the Court of Public Opinion some time after the coming holiday. Thank you for your supp4Qszofbi r-we56qt 8gva

FG - Was this your very first submission on AIR? Must say - fine job. Now about the "student" that is the subject of this parody, well, he seemed to be a bit school-zoned out. Now pay attention there will be a test later. =;-)

(ABC) wow, a great first parody, fiddlegirl - you nailed the pacing from the outset - I was thinking this theme would work well with "Let It Be" too, although all this OS's "nyah nyah nyah"s were a godsend for this - great stuff

Just a heads up here...I noticed you haven't yet left a comment for Stu's ABC5(T) entry...With all those nice points you're racking up, I'd hate to see you get DQ'd on a technicality.

(ABC) I'm not sure I can judge this one yet--and it goes to show how much racism and classism influence this society. I was with you until you started talking about race and welfare. Then I wondered: is she white or black, or something else? Democrat or Republican, or something else? Is she disparaging her students, or trying to get them to get off their butts and work? It's sad that my perception of your identity and your stand will influence whether I find this funny or not. But yes, that aside, it is witty, and amazing for your first parody. From your My Fair Lady spoof I see that someone's already talked to you already about the finer points of pacing, but even that's pretty good. I'll be back later tonight with my judgment.

BTW, if you are white, Republican, and disparaging your students, I feel way sorry for your students.

(ABC) I'm back. I printed out your parody and read it four times, playing the music in my head, imaginging in turn Chris Rock, then Bill Cosby, then Wanda Sykes, then Rush Limbaugh singing it. Of course it was most comfortable in Limbaugh's mouth, but I think Rock, Cosby, and Sykes might find 70-80% of it funny. What bothered me: the first "racist" reference tied to "SAT" and to "Never have to work even a--little bit" (a funny line, but tinged with racism--as if cultural bias could never enter a standardized test); the "Social Aid" reference, as if welfare and other gov't programs are only for the lazy, never for the unlucky, despised, disenfranchised, et al; the "federal subsidies" and "my family's on welfare" line, again assuming that welfare is only for the lazy (and implying that only minorities are on welfare and that minorities are lazy). Yes, kids--any kids--can be lazy, but your job as a teacher is to teach and inspire them and help them believe in themselves. The children of the rich can be lazy, too, but they have Daddy's and Mommy's money to fall back on. A fellow graduate student, years ago, taught at Long Island City HS during the school year and at a camp for the rich in the summer. He said the hardest people to teach are the very rich and the very poor. Reason: the very rich kids think that no matter what they do, they have it made; the very poor kids think that no matter what they do, they'll never make it. Please think about it! I could say a lot more, but I have to rate the rest of the songs and rank them and post my rankings in the next 1 1/2 hours. Your score: 5-4-4. I did tell you that most of the work is funny, right?

(ABC5) I like the title sub, but I think I'm a little confused with the welfare and racism bits. I'm a bit lost, but that's not your fault, it's mine for knowing sod all about social/political stuff. Aaaaaand I'm out.

Thanks to Guy, Stuart, Leo, Matthias, DJ Blaze, and Bobpiecheese for kind words and for evaluating the parody aesthetically.

Agrimorfee, sorry you were offended. Can't help that. See comments to Melanie.

Melanie- It's a parody. Thus, it trades a bit on exaggeration. I appreciate that you took the time to go back and read it, and to look at it in objective terms. Thank you.
That being said, you made some points to which I'd like to respond. I'll agree with the comment about racism and classism influencing our society. Human nature being what it is, those elements influence every society. Always have, always will. Still, I believe that, while we can't choose our circumstances, we can choose to take advantage of the opportunities given to us. In America, those opportunities are myriad, compared to other countries in the world. There are many, many success stories that can be cited. In contrast, there are many stories of folks (of all races and classes) who find it easier to blame others for their circumstances, and feel entitled to whatever restitution such blame might afford.

As for my classroom, of course it's my responsibility as a teacher to meet kids where they are, give them the best that I have, and try to inspire them to discover their gifts and develop their interests. FWIW, I taught in an urban-area Title I school in Texas where gang and drug activity were widespread, and at least 2 or 3 fights broke out per day. I now work as a Special Ed teacher with Emotionally Disturbed high-schoolers. So your assumption that I prefer to remain in a sheltered ivory tower is unfair (and unfounded.) I don't need to "think about" the statement re: the very rich and very poor-- I live with it every day. I'm not at all anti-temporary assistance for people who are in need. But I do find it difficult to be sympathetic toward families who can't seem to afford food, books, and/or school supplies for their kids, yet can manage to find money for iPods, Wiis, designer clothes, etc., for the simple reason that "someone else" will always be there to provide the needed basics. That's a huge perversion of welfare's original intentions, and does struggling students absolutely no good in terms of personal values, confidence, or ambition.

Again, I appreciate your thoughtful comments (and I have been enjoying your parodies on the site as well!) Cheers.

I do think that I see where some people felt this crossed the lines, as one who has had to rely on welfare for issues outside of my control--however I also think that this plays more on specific type of people as opposed to all people who are on 'welfare' or fit into a minority. Afterall--if you look at all of us we all fit into a minority. I think I'm going to side with any offense being taken on this one being unintentional, and it was funny in my opinion. It didn't, at least from my readings, go out and directly attack a specific person or group, though I certainly see how it can be interpreted that way. I'll just leave my comment as I think it was a brave parody that may rub some people the wrong way--however based on the writing I don't think it's intentional--I've seen hate parodies, and as a minority of a different kind--know how hurtful a hate parody can be--this isn't a hate parody, or at least it's not meant to be. . .I think

A hard-hitting, pull-no-punches parody about the failures of public education. I liked it as well. One note: government throwing more money at failed programs is not unique to the left by any means: see the DEA and 'War on Drugs'.

Yeah, tell me about it. That's what I had to put up with when I went to school. If you were there for the sole purpose of getting an education you were something else.
Fiddlegirl - December 05, 2009 - Report this comment
@ BADave: Thank you... No, it wasn't meant to be a "hate parody". Just an observation about an unfortunate reality in *far* too many cases.

@ Red Ant: Well said, Sir. No argument here.

@ 2Eagle: I think one of the biggest problems is that education is just taken for granted now, (and somewhat disdained, perhaps), because no one has to do anything for it. Too many students view it as just another hoop to jump through so they can get on with "real life". Add to that a society which has been progressively dumbed down in general, and, well... here we are. I promised myself I wouldn't get on my soapbox about that, so I'll spare you. ;) Thanks for v/c. :)
