"Ma in Tennessee"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

(ya'll is plural of you..guess she brought a husband)
Want some of that kudzu pie, daughter?
Ma did ask of me.
There were some crazy questions, tain't bourgeoisie.
This is the damnedest 'party' that could ever be.
If you turn on the lights, then I will see, eeee!

Mama had said, yea, ya'll come.
Mama had said, yea, ya'll come.
"This is the way to have fun...go!"

Have some shucky beans, or some possum baked in the gloom.
Followed by pigtail greens - cain't get none of that there, presume.
And the bad habits that you picked up 'bout scare me half to death,
You better have oxtail soup, then I can catch my breath.

Mama had said, yea, ya'll come.
Mama had said, yea, ya'll come.
"This is the way to have fun, hun!"
"This is the way to have fun, hun!"

(toe-tappin' fiddle music)

(corn-whiskey bottle hoot)

They have the strangest customs, before light they do the chores,
After dinner dishes - already started to snore.
I've seen so many foods I ain't never seen before,
"Don't know what it is - I don't wanna see no more."

Mama had said, yea, ya'll come.
Mama had said, yea, ya'll come.
She said, "This is the way to have fun, hun"
"This is the way to have fun...go!"

"This is the way to have fun...go!"
"This is the way to have fun...hun!"
"This is the way to have fun...go!"
"This is the way to have fun...hun!"

"This is the way to have fun...go!"
"This is the way to have fun...hun!"
"This is the way to have fun...go!"
"This is the way to have fun...hun!"

Pat - well done. Love how you captured that Beverly Hillbillish culture and humor in this one. Just love that downhome stuff - yeehaw!

Let me put this in terms a Tennessean can understand: This was about as much fun as a trip to Gainesville!
Adagio - December 30, 2003 - Report this comment
MP, we have a different kind of fun here.

I once won first place in a contest. The grand prize was an all expense paid vacation to NJ. Then I learned that second place was also an all expenses paid vacation to the same place.
Guy - December 31, 2003 - Report this comment
The kicker was that 2nd place was four days in NJ.
Adagio - December 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Poor Al Gore, MP, you've classed him with the rest of us that you condemned.
Guy - December 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Ah beautiful Tennessee - The birth place of the internet. (According to Algore).

Adagio, let me say something about my home State. When Al Gore ran for President, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the nation had followed our lead, we wouldn't have all these problems we've had the last three years! If I condemn Tennesseans, it's for abandoning their noblest son, and I don't mean Lamar! Alexander.

MP - So did everyone in NJ vote a day or two before the rest of the country? I was totally unaware that NJ was first to vote and that the rest of us should have followed what they did. I may have voted differently had I been aware of that. Wasn't that a problem in the panhandle area of Fla. where the polls were open an hour later because a time zone runs through that area and guys like Dan Rather were so eager to announce that Algore had won the state?

Give it a rest, Mp, and everyone have a safe and Happy New Year! MP...I'll set aside a corn whiskey jug just for you...:D

Uh, W won Tennessee and its 11 electoral votes. According to the 2004 World Almanac, the official vote total for the state of Tennessee was 1,061,949 for George W. Bush, and 981,720 for Al Gore, Jr. While Clinton won Tennessee in 1992 and 1996, Gore did NOT win Tennessee in 2000, and in fact was the first major-party Presidential candidate to lose in his home state since 1972 when George McGovern lost South Dakota, and only the second to lose his state of residence at the time of the election since Adlai Stevenson lost in Illinois in 1956. -- MM

He he he...Pat =)
Some city folk , can't appreciate the beauty, charm and simple elegance of southern folks.
Adagio - January 01, 2004 - Report this comment
I'm afraid not, Diva. And their loss. Speaking of...have to get black-eyed peas for today (preferably with cornbread).
Guy - January 01, 2004 - Report this comment
It's pork and saurkraut here. Gotta start the New Year out right.
Michael Pacholek - January 01, 2004 - Report this comment
Uh, boy. Guy, I thought you were smarter than that. I was parodying the racist remarks of Trent Lott of Mississippi and that stinking shriveled hypocrite Strom Thurmond. What anybody with a brain, which I thought you were, can see is that I meant that if the rest of the country, or even one more State, or even enough in Florida that Jeb and the Cubans couldn't steal it (almost wrote "the Cubs"... there's a laugh, the Cubs couldn't handle Florida!), and had voted the same WAY as New Jersey, we would've had President Gore, and we wouldn't be in this economic mess, and probably not in these foreign messes too. Elegance of Southern folks? Now there's a topic for a parody.
Guy - January 01, 2004 - Report this comment
MP - I thought this parody was written by Adagio. So I have no idea what parody you are referencing. And since when did Cuban nationals get to vote in our elections? You were talking about Cuban nationals I hope, otherwise it sounds awfully bigoted.
Adagio - January 01, 2004 - Report this comment
Yes, MP...it is me parodying...not you!
David Chrenko - January 02, 2004 - Report this comment
Adajio, you wrote a very funny paody, and it sounds like you might could be fixin' to cook a mess o' tasty vittles. I can smell the black-eyed peas and bacon sizzlin' in the skillet! We had an all-American New Year's feast: li'l smokies (the south), taquitos (southwest), smoked salmon (northwest), left-over cranberry and cornbread stuffing (New England), Vita pickled herring (northeast), and a good ol' case of American-style indigestion-on-a-cracker. I can't believe we ate the whole thing.
Guy - January 02, 2004 - Report this comment
Right you are David. Pat has that great down home Jed Clampette sense of humor. Real Americana to go along with your real Americana New Year's day meal. It's interesting what people eat traditionally on the 1st day of a new year. BTW, my sausage and kraut was the best ever. I got a roaster oven for Christmas and man it done it up righteous. No heartburn here. Happy New Year.
Adagio - January 02, 2004 - Report this comment
I know that around parts of New Mexico, the tradition is menudo (the dish, not the group) for the first day of the year. I used to make that when I lived there, minus the tripe, thank you. I used pork instead.
