The Omicron Variant was supposed to be named after the Greek letter "Nu", but WHO (who?) thought that would be confusing so they went to the next letter. Nu is followed in the Greek alphabet by the letter "Xi" and then "Omicron" Of course Xi is the name of the dictator who OKed the reckless gain of function experiments in the first place and then orchestrated its spread throughout the world, so we musn't use his name lest he suffer a picofraction of a nanosecond of stigmatizing butthurt. Seeing as how this is shaping up as a false alarm that first appeared in South Africa, the question becomes "Who gnu about Nu". I'll bet WHO knew.
