Song Parodies -> "Hip Lichtenstein"

Original Song Title:

"Hitchin' a Ride"

Original Performer:

Vanity Fair

Parody Song Title:

"Hip Lichtenstein"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

A "King of Pop" pre-Jacko time,
He placed his dots between the bold black lines:
Hip Lichtenstein, Roy Lichtenstein,
But didn't call home little Liechtenstein.

Subject matter, fairly mundane;
Celebrated the banal and inane,
Hip Lichtenstein, Roy Lichtenstein,
Made from comic books art considered fine.

Made low high, hip Lichtenstein.
Made low high, Roy Lichtenstein.

Work dismissed in the early day,
But now millions collectors pay
For Lichtensteins, prized Lichtensteins.
Did some work in "stone"; made some litho's fine.

Made low high, hip Lichtenstein.
Made low high, Roy Lichtenstein.

A "King of Pop" in Andy's time,
He lived much longer than the wigged albin-
o, Lichtenstein, hip Lichtenstein.
His name means "clear stone";
Lithograph is "Stein-
druck"; and on his tomb's a stein.

Raise stein to Roy Lichtenstein,
Yes, raise high that liquored stein.
Made low high, hip Lichtenstein. . . .

Thanks, JAB, for this highly intelligent parody of one of the most overplayed and irritating songs of all time. You've inspired me once again.

Nice tribute to the artist Roy. I wrote a paper about an exhibition of his work at Ohio State University - it was for a class. Also the tune gives me happy memories of visiting my grandparents' farm when I was a little kid. All this before everything got so corporate and analytical. Thank U, JAB!
