"Solid Gold"
The Lyrics
(Spoken intro)
Chorus (narrator): From 1980 to 1988, the television show "Solid Gold" brainwashed millions of Americans long before MTV or Disney Channel ever did. However--then as now--there were some people with functioning minds who knew what true artistry is and is not. Three of these people--Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart--set out from their homes in our neighbour to the north, Canada. They are better known as the band Rush.
(Music begins)
Stanza I.
Solid Gold brainwashed so much of the public
That there seemed to be none with functioning thought.
But then three Canadians who'd formed a prog-rock band
Wanted to make sure that culture was taught
That would enlighten the people while showing
That good songs could be fun simultaneously.
Rush was their collective name and they wandered
South of the border, these glorious three.
Bridge.
Geddy, Alex, Neil,
Crossing borders varied, time and time again. (2x)
Refrain.
Sing, sing for gold, sing the songs that get old.
Won't you...
Sing 'til you're mould, see them dance on Solid Gold.
(Instrumental)
Bound for the Paramount building in July
Of 1988, they left their homes.
They risked it all including reputation;
But though not religious, they were not alone.
They felt that mankind would be extra grateful
That he had been freed from those musical chains;
And even if they survived not the mission,
They did believe they would come home again.
(Bridge)
(Refrain)
