Song Parodies -> "Two Non-Singers"

Original Song Title:

"Two Gunslingers"

Original Performer:

Tom Petty

Parody Song Title:

"Two Non-Singers"

Parody Written by:

Rick Cormier

The Lyrics

Two non-singers took bows on the stage
And one said, "Think we're gonna do one more."
And the other non-singer thought about it
And he said, "Yeah, why don't we do one more."

Sound man has control of our mikes
Volume's gonna roll off our mikes
Sound man's in control of our lives now
Right now, oh yeah

Well the crowd that assembled
For the concert, they got down
Everyone there was fooled
And a young man told his girlfriend
"Wow, they sound just like their records!"
"Yeah, Milli Vanilli rules!"

PR's in control of their lives
PR's got the whole thing spun right
PR's in control of their lives now
Right now, oh yeah

(canned, glitzy guitar solo)

Then the two lip-synchers
Were sold out from the inside
Had to give Grammy back
It's all image in the rock biz
It's a pity, they were pretty
Talent was all they lacked

They gave up control of their lives
They gave up their souls for false lives
They wanted the gold and spotlights, yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Well the two non-singers
Were ridden out of town and
Were never heard from no more
And there ain't been nothing like them
"Cept for Ashlee, maybe others
But nobody knows for sure

They gave up control of their lives
They gave up their souls for false lives
They faked it for gold and spotlights, yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

Sounds like "American Idol." I caught a few seconds of Kenny G. accompanying some kid who couldn't sing. Scary.

DKTOS either, but will trust 4 others on pacing. Like John said, I thought this was about the American Idol final 2. 5s.

Well done Rick. It's a bit of a surprise that the URL gives away that there are really only 25 Tom Petty parodies (and most of them to "Free falling" I bet) because I think they'd lend themselves to more good (and less good) work. In fact, I wrote one of my earliest parodies (and probably the fastest one I've done, approx 2 hours, so it's probably in the less good category) to this song so I can tell you did a great job. Here's mine if you wanna check it out:
