The Lyrics

In July 2005, M&P released "Pieces Of April", a ditty about someone who did somebody wrong, and paid the ultimate price. Seven years later, it appears that her friend Lorraine knew just a little too much about poor April's fate. If you are not familiar with the original song "Lament" by Ultravox, it is a haunting tune (especially now to Lorraine) and is here on Youtube with the original film clip (as I remember it).

A trousseau by hand I’m weaving:
Slab for my Lorraine...
Insisted on re’nforced steelings
(That assists the lay’n)
Add loam, sand, from barrow
Gets churned with water, gravel – Cement!

Cement

I just got the mixer turning
Lumbers under strain
The sky’s got me concerning
(Just don’t let it rain...)
The formwork - with gladness
It yearns for slurried, slimy, Cement!

Cement

Cement
Cement
Cement
Cement
Cement

Cement, ohhh

An outcome much less grisly than Aprils, but Lorraine's certainly seems more permanent.

I worked heavy construction in the late 1980s under Cannon Construction and worked with cement- 555!!! Back-breaking work but excellent pay. I later was injured, so moved to warehouse work...

I worked with cement and jackhammers and all that crap one summer doing manhole construction for minimum wage. My boss was an ex-Marine paratrooper sergeant named Elgie Bratcher. It was my first hardhat manual labor-type job and I thought I was gonna die every day but at least by the end of summer I was in shape and had a great tan.

Sounds like some concrete evidence was left behind :)

Rob and POP - my only experience with cement was trying to fill a hole in the front of our 60 year old porch steps. Lasted a year and a half and fell out.

Poor Lorraine was between a rock and a hard place, wasn't she?

wandlimb: Wish we had thought of that as an outro comment!
