"Ironic"

Original Performer:

Alanis Morissette

Parody Song Title:

"Jagged LIttle Girl"

Parody Written by:

Phil D. Hernández

The Lyrics

Little girl with a whine in her voice,
And when she sings, she depresses all the boys.
And even though she's on top of the world,
She still pretends she's a jagged little girl.
And isn't it moronic, don't you think?

It's like listening to Alanis Morissette;
Suicide, but you haven't died yet;
Waking up, and your bed is all wet;
And who would have thought she'd make it?

She's got one hand inside her pocket,
And the other hand where it shouldn't be kept.
She recommends: you live, you learn;
You cry, you learn; yeah, you whine, you learn.
And isn't it moronic, don't you think?

It's like listening to Alanis Morissette;
Suicide, but you haven't died yet;
Waking up, and your bed is all wet;
And who would have thought she'd make it?

And it's a funny thing,
Even though she starts to sing incomprehensibly, with a snarly twang in her voice,
Doesn't mean a thing:
People seem to want to buy her albums anyway; maybe they think they have no choice.

Black Flag, when you wanted Raid;
A bright sunny day, but you stay in the shade.
10,000 Maniacs, when all you need's some sanity.
[spoken] Walking into a whorehouse, thinking that you'll get some free.
And isn't it moronic, don't you think?
Yeah, isn't it moronic? Yeah, I really do think.

It's like listening to Alanis Morissette;
Suicide, but you haven't died yet;
Waking up, and your bed is all wet;
And who would have thought? Go figure.

And it's a funny thing...
Yeah, it's a funny, funny thing,
Grossing you out, grossing you out.

Phil...your pacing is WAY off; your words don't fit very well with the original tune. Did you use a lyric sheet? If you didn't, I would recommend you do so in the future; then sing your parody along with the OS (if you have a copy) to see if it fits. Some interesting ideas in here, but not a lot of real funny stuff. 233

This song is an absolute biotch to pace "correctly", and some variations/deviations, especially in the verses, would be more than welcome, but even given all of that this is still really hard to sing to The Original Song (TOS). I did like the references to her other songs and the attempt at satire though. Work on the pacing (BTW, good rhyming) for your next one, and don't let my or Kristof's comments votes get you down too much. 343.
