The Lyrics

I wrote this for a friend, who is away from home and is having Thanksgiving dinner with some folks who are having Pork Chops and Salmon...instead of the traditional bird. Poor Girl...
For all the Turkey Days I've had
The ones with mom, the ones with dad
For all the joy they brought to my life
When all the food was cooked just right
For each game of Monopoly
For every blessed memory
I'll be forever thankful baby
Thanksgiving is just one day
Don't want to be let down
When I heard your menu I had to frown!

No, "Mom, I'd like some more dark meat."
No Delicious turkey to eat
I can't believe that we're eating pork
Do you want me to punch you, Dork?
Wonder what else is up your sleeve
I really wish that I could leave
Thanksgiving dinner's ruined
'Cuz there's no turkey

Ooooh, baby.

Some turkey wings would make me smile
For turkey meat I would walk a mile
I've lost my faith, faith in your sanity
Just keep the salmon far from me
Without that bird I wanna bawl
I wish I hadn't come at all
Not grateful for the meal you gave me
Maybe I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I'm never coming back to eat with you

No, "Mom, I'd like some more dark meat."
No Delicious turkey to eat
I can't believe that we're eating pork
Do you want me to punch you, Dork?
Wonder what else is up your sleeve
I really wish that I could leave
Thanksgiving dinner's ruined
'Cuz there's no turkey

Though it's nice you're here for me
The gesture is quite dear to me
The light and the dark meat are a part of a real good meal
Thanks for the invitation
But I've got to tell the truth
This has been a lousy day, because of you

No, "Mom, I'd like some more dark meat."
No Delicious turkey to eat
I can't believe we're eating pork
Do you want me to punch you, Dork?
Wonder what else is up your sleeve
I really wish that I could leave
Thanksgiving dinner's ruined
'Cuz there's no turkey

Repeat Chorus

Yeah, Thanksgiving dinner's ruined
'Cuz there's no turkey

In spite of the fact that I like the original song very much, this was pretty funny! I'd be upset if there was no turkey on Thanksgiving!

I recently watched an episode of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' where Ray and his wife had seabass for their Thanksgiving meal - it ended up with the mother bringing a turkey because both sets of inlaws were there. Well done!

Thanks, Pickle...I think any logical person would do the same...Sea Bass???

Missed this one first time...Although I don't celebrate Thanksgiving (not being American) and absolutely hate Celine Dion (just because I do..), I have to say this was brilliant! A sickly sweet first verse and then you turned NASTEE!! I was laughing...well done 555

Kristof...thanks! You're British, aren' t you? Not trying to butter you up or anything...but I'm totally a sucker for a sexy British accent...(but since we're not actually speaking...I should probably also say that I also get inexplicably giddy whenever you guys add extra vowels to words...i.e...favourite...colour...etc. ; )....)

Actually my long eared one, I'm an Aussie living in London for last 10 years...losing my accent a bit, but still occasionally let slip a "bonza" or "owyagoinmateawright?"...and still love barbies (as in BBQ, not the doll, although......). My mum thinks I sound like a "limey" as you guys like to call the Brits. So in truth I'm a bit of a hybrid. Oh well...

My favorite meal of the year...I must gain ten pounds that day each year!

As well you should, Mr. Reuben! Thanks for stopping by on an old favorite...=)

I liked this one; I think it was very well constructed. I've gotta give it a 5-5-5. Tomorrow I will probably eat a lot, as usual (although not too much, even though this will be my 30th Thanksgiving), and I'll be sure to save room for the good stuff!

Oh, and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving, arwen! :)
