Oh wow, now *no one* will believe that the parody to be posted on Friday (17th Aug 12) by Your Humble Servant was conceived and written before having seen this, or knowing it would happen -- esp. the shout-out to the authors of this gem in the intro to said submission. (Andy P will bear witness!)

Assuming "Rye" was a pun on "Wry" -- or a ref to "Catcher in the Rye" ref that got missed by everyone in a cerTTain parody? ... Fave was the "comic-economic" section. Patrick was correct, so, hmmm -- how to vote this? ;)

    Re: DK: FG was always coming up with similar obscure stuff, usually older, not newer, as in 1930s/40s.... I put OS links in mine as well, but the problem is that having fallen off the musical planet pretty much when DMcL's song did (i. e., early 70s, with rare exceptions), most newer stuff is actually distasteful to hear, which limits both TT's OS range and others' that I K. So I trust those who KTOS on pacing. (Like I'd knock it in a tribute anyway! ;-D )
    Can't trust Web transcripts, as we all know...

Great 'stuff' ewe tewe! Many clever lines/rhymes. And, of course, there's no worthier parodical goal than the WryRye racontewering o' BeasTTaliTTy!

As per Pip's PM request, tried TOS video. (You can stop twisting on the flip', Pip! ;) Alas, even more morose than suggested by the Zombie title. Hardly could get through the war/death/ Crucifixion scenes to where the words start. (Contrast with delightful ABBA video linked somehwere, LOL). Did not find the voice pleasing, but see below re "personal taste".

Took the more pleasant route of pairing OS lyrics transcription to parody, and found exactly what was expected: Perfect pacing and excellent syllable-matching. Admittedly, the latter is best appreciated when TOS lyrics are known or compared.

Hi Tommy - glad you enjoyed this. Yes, Smileance/Stylance was mine. And I totally agree with you regarding the OS - it is dour in the extreme. Seemed to be one of those uber-serious songs where the writers imagined that they're lyrics were terribly profound, but they just end up coming across as pretentious and less than inspired... the half of the team avoided the video entirely as I have access to unlimited downloads thanks to wandlimb. Re: your earlier comment; this writer did not fall off the musical planet until a couple of years after the birth of MTV, but I have to admit that when d'lding newer songs for parody voting purposes, I have found a number of 'keepers.' One must slog thru a lot of oysters to find the pearl so to speak, but they are out there in all musical genres.

Hi Meriadoc: I must have bad luck with pearl-diving; you'd think that a creature that dives for a living (to feed) would develop an eye. ;)

Also annoying is a trend of more-recent artists remaking the oldies in the "new style". Robert Knight's "Everlasting Love" (1967) -- great song. Carl Carlton's 1974 cover -- also good. Gloria Estefan in 1995 -- bleah.

TT needed to do BoRap to complete the B7. Never heard of the song or the band. Tried listening; couldn't. Worked from web lyrics. Got zinged a bit on pacing, which is hardly surprising when one doesn't hear the actual song. MIDI might have helped, but that's a weirdly-varied song, as you know. Well, it's done.
    Given the treasure trove of gold out there (pun intended), not highly motivated to slog through manure looking for diamonds (which is how I'd heard that metaphor, although not with manure). Props to Pip for the concept (cough) -- but isn't it only fair that you now get to do a TribuTe using your own choice of OS? ;-D (Kidding! j/k! Kidding ! ;)

Drat that comment pauser - I wanted to come back and fix my typos 'they're' instead of 'their' - groan; and 'the' instead of 'they'...

Anyway, my choice would have been "Christmas": "And Tommy's verses flow like lavabeds..." or something like that.

Don't need to slog thru manure per se, just make a point of getting the OS's for voting and you will find some good stuff from time to time. It's worth it ! :)

Second mention of anti-flooding timer - umm, you *do* know that there's a comment-preview function now, right? ... thanks to the repeated pleas to CG by a certain flippered klutz, with support from other writers. But yeah, I too still let some get through.

Glad you intended to fix "they're" for "their", as you're (your? :eek:) one of the last people I'd expect would need to read TT's didactody,

Didn't see the rock opera, as it sounded unappealing. However, fave song was "Pinball Wizard", as TT's misspent youth included many nights of playing pinball for hours on a single dime. Did parody that one, but enough plugs for now -- if you're bored or actually interested, you know how to find it. Else, not.
