The Lyrics

In case you aren't familiar with the area, Brown Deer is a suburb of Milwaukee, WI. Ghost Gum is a tree that grows in the Outback, and a willy-willy is basically a dust devil.
I took a plane with her Down Under,
Two college kids so far from school.
She was a really crazy woman,
Hell-bent to move into a zoo.
We were kilometres from nowhere,
Ghost Gum as far as I could see,
Both needing something from each other,
I feared to think what it might be!

'Til we came to them one evening,
Amber, Tina, Kel and Nick.
They looked so emaciated,
We called World Vision really quick!
There was indifference in their leader,
There was an evil in his eyes,
And on his face there was a hunger
Even a boy could recognize!

We had a need to see the Outback
Kangaroos across the sand
To pet a black and white koala
And hope it didn't bite our hands
We had to see the poor Survivors
Had to bargain with their host
"When we get back to old Brown Deer,
Mate, we're gonna brew a beer
And we're gonna call it Probst!"

The desert heat was all around me
Forest fires gave us fright
When I told her 'roos were dying
She softly whispered, "that's not right"
And then I watched the flames of brimstone
Burn the eucalyptus trees
It must really be a bummer
To lose so many great species :(

We had a need to see the Outback
Kangaroos across the sand
To pet a black and white koala
And hope it didn't bite our hands
We had to see the poor Survivors
Had to bargain with their host
"When we get back to old Brown Deer,
Mate, we're gonna brew a beer
And we're gonna call it Probst!"

I often think about that summer,
So many people called me "mate."
I even saw a willy-willy
Not far from where they grow the grapes.
And every time I drink a Hardy's,
It brings back all the memories.
Although I know it isn't real,
I just can't help but feel
I'm seeing Probst again!

We had a need to see the Outback
Kangaroos across the sand
To pet a black and white koala
And hope it didn't bite our hands
We had to see the poor Survivors
Had to bargain with their host
"When we get back to old Brown Deer,
Mate, we're gonna brew a beer
And we're gonna call it Probst!"

"When we get back to old Brown Deer,
Mate, we're gonna brew a beer
And we're gonna call it Probst!"

Not bad, though a bit of research on the subject would've been a good idea.

(AGES) This was nicely written, but it took me 4 times to read it to get what was going on. If I didn't know what "Survivor" was, I wouldn't have had any clue whatsoever.

(Ages)"And every time I drink a Hardy's" hmmmm. . .sorry I don't know what a Hardy's is, must be an Australian thing:) Honestly, this one is well written. . .especially considering it's a parody of a Garth Brooks song, an artist whose lyrics have consistantly put me to sleep. . .as did listening to that midi you linked to . . .but all is okay Mr McVey, all in all a good parody, and being the first I've read, you aren't being compared to anyone yet.

Hardy's is one of the Australian brands of wine, along with such great shiraz as Lindeman's, Black Swan, and my favorite, Bancroft Station.---MM

(AGES) I'm Australian, and I didn't get half of what that was on about. it better not be pulling from Aussie stereotypes, or I may have to eat you.

Strangely I understood what you were talking about and it was deeply moving... Great job

(Ages) I can't exactly imagine you on a reality show...and I certainly wouldn't want to be on Survivor, either! Great detail, though.
