The Lyrics

You think Meter Maids are unpopular where you live? Check out this story about a man from down under who was found dead in his car after several days, with an issued fine on the windscreen! It's so appalling I had to invent a new genre: Parking Death Metal!

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2005/10/21/1129775933113.html
Coupes and Humvees and limos and SUV's
Targets for meters and matrons and doves
When stopped at a parking for days or an hour
In death or alive or betwixt you'll be scoured

She's there to watch you, you're fined when you're dead
Top up the coffers, that has to be said
She's the collector, The Grim Meter Maid
Porsche, or in Trailer, you're fined as you fade

Be fined - When you're dead!

Be fined, fined, fined...
When you're dead, dead, dead...

Reeeest... in peace where you arrive...
Reeeest... (Tow, Pull, De-bling)
Reeeest... in peace where you arrive...
Reeeest... (Tow, Pull, De-bling)

I bet you'll go down as a case...
That ticket's not valid for Haaaades...

When maggots are crawling inside of your ear
She thinks that it's perfect, at her they don't swear
Don't matter what's wrong if the car's not alight
She pulls out her tablet, continues to write

She has a ruling, no handicap zone
Unless IRS had you ripped to the bone
She has percentage, she's never on strike
Third generation, since bred in the Reich

Be fined - When you're dead!

Be fined, fined, fined...
When you're dead, dead, dead...

She's there and watching your sinus arrest
Leers at your coughing community chest
She's checking windows, no steam from a breath
Two things are certain, it's taxes and death!

Be fined - When you're dead!
Be fined!

"Parking Death Metal", "Grim Meter Maid" ... simply brilliant, Peter. Beautifully sharp, too. That said, it's a shame not many people will know the OS: they're missing something.

Reminds me of George Harrison's "Taxman": "My advice for those who die: Declare the pennies on your eyes!"

Phil: Yes, they are. I thought about using something commonly better know, like the Beatles’ ”Ticket to ride” or ”Lovely Rita (Meter Maid)” but quickly realised that for this subject I just had to use a song, any song, by Meter Ma... I mean IRON MAIDEN. ”Be quick or be dead” is IMHO one of their best, with an opening verse suitable for namedropping a la ”A few of my favourite things” (Hey parodists! It’s worth checking out for that alone), so it worked out even better than what I had hoped for. :-)

Michael: Nice reference back to my Hades reference. :-)

(SOTM) DKTOS, but I could see Bruce Dickinson screaming this one out (assuming this was a B.D.-era song, amiright?). A worthy answer to The Beatles' "Lovely Rita".

(SOTM) Three things are certain: Taxes, Death and that this is a seriously rocking OS. (Sinatra to Iron Maiden is a pretty wide taste in music). I checked out the newslink as well. Is that town name pronounced "Maroon-duh"? Anyway, great parody, "de-bling" was funny along with many other lines.

SOTM - morbid but interesting. Or is that morbid AND interesting?

(SOTM) - I downloaded the OS from your site, and I must applaud your re-use of the "When maggots are crawling inside of your ear" line, and the pronunciation of SUV to rhyme with dove - yes, this was a local story that caused a bit of a commotion on our talkback radio channels - I wish I'd thought of parodying it - perfectly lampooned, Peter - 555

(SOTM) "Third generation, since bred in the Reich" ... a parking-ticket Nazi, eh?

SOTM - So if you can't ticket with you, it's not very taxing... ;-)

D'Oh! I was working on an Iron Maiden parody about ticketing dead drivers!

Or not. "Iron Meter Maiden" is a hilarious concept, so of course I like the "Grim Meter" line best. Nice job, Meter. Er, Peter.

SOTM...I was MOR-TI-FIED when I heard this story on the news...but this was a fun take...and very well done. =)

First, thanks for this recording (and the others you provided for other entrants). Never heard the original before, though IM was pretty popular when I was in school (I remember "Run To The Hills" and "Number of the Beast"; that's about it). Anyway, funny story, and funny parody to go along with it. Especially liked the "death and taxes" ending.

(SOTM) This proves that you don't wanna end up living in Melbourne...nasty place! (;-), Stu...). Great concept from great story, greatly executed. Bravo! 5555

SOTM...loved the story, and the parody. All 5's

Some things are just not fair, like fining dead people, or not giving mostly fives for this well-written odds news account turned song parody.
