The Lyrics

Did you know that old school license plates in Pennsylvania said "You've Got a Friend in Pennsylvania"? If not, I'm resurrecting the license plate motto as the title of this song.
It was four hundred miles out of Texas but she took the risk
Though there were some Texans with dual citizenship
Her Mercury Sable was never seen deep in the heart
She was off to Pennsylvania via Illinois
Little did she know she would meet a man
Known to all the females as the friendly campus balloon man
She preferred the baby blues over all the reds
Because she always mentioned it was her favorite color

Everybody's got a friend in Pennsylvania
Everybody understands the Penn State cheer
Dancing in the heat to the beat
That turns your clothing clammy
Everybody needs to have a dream come true

One day in July she came to his house
Bringing him a bouquet of birthday balloons
And she agrees to become his academic mentor
Because at the time he had turned twenty - one
She has a daughter living in the Lone Star State
Who would later receive a balloon of her own
Her name is Kali and just before Christmas
She met the campus' friendly balloon man

Everybody's got a friend in Pennsylvania
Everybody has a Keystone connection
Dancing in the heat to the beat
That turns your clothing clammy
Everybody wants to cheer for old Penn State

WE ARE...PENN STATE!
WHAT?
WE ARE...PENN STATE!
WHAT?
WE ARE...PENN STATE!
YES!

Hard to believe the commonwealth began as a speck of land
Home to the first national capital
Between the Delaware River and Stateline Road
After many wars and independence

I am umbilically connected to the commonwealth
It brought me knowledge, as well as love
I have never outgrown
It brought me one too many Fridays passing out balloons
And one too many nights full of trivia
In one way or the other we're all refugees
Living out this easy life below the maple trees
Smoothing off the rougher edges of the culture clash
We got a style, we got a look
We got that old panache

Everybody's got a friend in Pennsylvania
Everybody understands the Penn State cheer
Dancing in the heat to the beat
That turns your clothing clammy
Everybody needs to have a dream come true
(I do)

Everybody's got a friend in Pennsylvania
Everybody has a Keystone connection
Dancing in the heat to the beat
That turns your clothing clammy
Everybody wants to cheer for old Penn State
(repeat)

My cousin attended Penn State, while my parents' friends live in PA, just outside Harrisburg. Therefore, I have quite a few Keystone connections.
