The Lyrics

This is my first submitted parody. I concede that there may (probably will) be errors regarding the actual facts of the Viking invasions. Also, the middle eight isn't very good.
They're dangerous 'cos they're brutal
They're dangerous and they know what they want
Well they'll leave your vaults empty as a vacant barrow
To leave your spirit to haunt

Because you'll be dead
You see

It's an accident waiting to happen
All the monasteries sat beside the beach
Ethelred did things you know you're not supposed to
He paid them to stay out of reach

This was no real use
They just came back yearly

Who's gonna repel the wild Norsemen
They're not gonna drown in the North Sea
You'll have to fight the wild Norsemen
Make them fall at the foot of thee

Well they stole it 'cos they wanted the cash
And they killed folks 'cos they wanted a laugh
Ethelred lied to them 'cos he thought they'd go
They were no longer the best of friends

Danegeld shot right up
Revenge raids, they took place

Who's gonna repel the wild Norsemen
They're not gonna drown in the North Sea
You'll have to fight the wild Norsemen
Make them fall at the foot of thee

The deeper we're in
The Vikings will cut at our pasty pale skin
Took a sail in the dirty rain
To a place where treasure calls their name
Under the trees, doing Blood Eagles to you and me
Alfred knew that once they are in
The doors they open
We just can't close

Don't set up camp
They'll raid and raid again
Don't set up camp
On the Isle Of Man
Don't set up camp
They'll raid and raid again
Don't set up camp
On the Isle Of Man

Come on now lads
Could you go back

Who's gonna repel the wild Norsemen
They're not gonna drown in the North Sea
Edmund died before he could negotiate
Who's gonna take the place of he
We're not gonna repel the wild Norsemen
We'll have to tame them, do you see?

Don't know the original song (since you're a rookie, I spelled it out instead of using the abbreviation "DKTOS"), which might make me "unready." If I knew it, I'd give this a five. Still, I love historical parodies, and this one has the facts straight, so it was worth a solid four. And who did repel the wild Norsemen? Harold Godwinson. Of course, no one gives him the credit for his great victory at Stamford Bridge, because just a few days later... As has been remarked on this site, never do battle with a guy nicknamed either "The Bastard" or "The Conqueror."

Thanks for your comment! Glad you appreciated it as I was worried that I got some large historical facts wrong, but if it's relatively okay then good stuff! In hindsight, I think I should have called it Who's Gonna Stop The Wild Norsemen, as that scans much better in the song. There's also some other lines which really stick out as unscannable (is that a word?), which you'll notice if you ever hear the song. Thanks again!
