U2 & B.B. KingThis is the song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles. We're stealing it back. -Bono just before performing "Helter Skelter". Submitted by: Brian Kelly
| As a rock star, I have two instincts, I want to have fun, and I want to change the world. I have a chance to do both. - Bono It's so sweet, I feel like my teeth are rotting when I listen to the radio. - Bono Music can change the world because it can change people. - Bono Rock 'n' roll is ridiculous. It's absurd. In the past, U2 was trying to duck that. Now we're wrapping our arms around it and giving it a great big kiss. - Bono To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater. - Bono U2 is an original species... there are colours and feelings and emotional terrain that we occupy that is ours and ours alone. - Bono We thought that we had the answers, it was the questions we had wrong. - Bono The less you know, the more you believe. - Bono Submitted by: LucidLupin

"Numb"
The Funny Lyrics: Don't travel by train
Don't eat Don't spill Don't piss down the drain Don't make a will Why They're Funny: This whole song doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but IMHO this is the best line in the whole song. I laugh every time I hear it.
Submitted by: Moosehead
| "The Ground Beneath Her Feet"
The Funny Lyrics: Go lightly down your darkened way
Go lightly underground I'll be down there in another day Why They're Funny: This song is supposed to be such an innocent love song, but I was singing along to these lines and I stopped and laughed uncontrollably when I realized what I was singing! (Hint: "darkened way"- and a man is singing this to a woman.)

"The Hands That Built America"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: From the stony fields
To hanging steel from skies Why They're Nonsensical: I know that Bono was trying to speak in metaphor but how the hell does one hang steel from the sky? There's no way that would work
Submitted by: Dayna
| "Sweetest Thing"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: Eternal fire, she turned me to straw
Why They're Nonsensical: Someone turned Bono to straw!? It does not make sense at all. Last time I checked, Bono doesn't look much like a piece of straw. And where does "eternal fire" fall into context here?

"Love And Peace Or Else"
The Insincere Lyrics: Lay down all your Abrahams sons
Why They're Insincere: Now what does this mean? I know that we are all, according to the Bible, Abraham's sons and daughters, but it will always have that connotation of Isaac. It means either a. sacrifice all your sons because it is the will of God or else it means b. don't sacrifice all your sons even if it is the will of God. Now this is in contradiction with what U2 is supposedly all about. They preach about being so holy and following God and everything, yet they also preach for peace. So no matter how you look at this lyric (and I'm always going to see 'lay down' in the way it is used towards killing animals) it goes against their supposed beliefs, meaning they don't really think about what they say they just say it cause it sounds cool.

"Out Of Control"
The Misrhymed Lyrics: Monday morning eighteen years of dawning
I say how long, you say how long And it was one dull morning Woke the world with bawling And one day I'll die The choice will not be mine Why They're Misrhymed: This song has so many lyrics that don't rhyme! Even though it's a great song and I love it, I think Bono could have done a better job rhyming the lyrics.
Submitted by: CRA-Z-W-U2
| "Vertigo"
The Misrhymed Lyrics: Uno, Dos, Tres, Catorce!
Why They're Misrhymed: Personally, I don't think these A) ryhme, or B) make sense. Okay, Uno, dos, tres. But Catorce is Spanish and translates to: one, two, three, fourteen. One word: Why?

"The Ground Beneath Her Feet"
The Insulting Lyrics: Go lightly down your darkened way
Why They're Insulting: In the context of the song, this line's dirty meaning becomes a bit obvious. So even though this is supposed to be a sweet love song, suddenly you have Bono telling this girl to go f**k herself.

"Pride in the Name of Love"
The Inappropriate Lyrics: Early morning, April four,
shot rings out in the Memphis sky. Why They're Inappropriate: Technically, it occurred in the evening, during the 6 p.m. hour, local time. Therefore it would be more appropriate to say "Early evening." However, according to Wikopedia, Bono has acknowledged the mistake, and when he performs the song live, he often uses "evening" instead of "morning" (but not always!).
Submitted by: Gus
| "Sunday Bloody Sunday"
The Inappropriate Lyrics: Broken bottles under children's feet
Why They're Inappropriate: I just don't get it! I never understood it since I first heard the song, in fact. This song is supposed to be about the wars in northern Ireland, and bottles have nothing at all to do with war! Broken bottles? It makes no sense with the song.

Why They're Dirty: In between WHAT? Guess Bono's dirtier than we thought.

The Dirty Lyrics: Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth Why They're Dirty: In the context of the song it's not that bad but I think it is one of the many funny oral sex references in the album.

The Lyrics: Dici che il fiume
Trova la via al mare E come il fiume Giungerai a me Oltre i confini E le terre assetate Dici che come il fiume Come il fiume... L'amore giungerà L'amore... E non so più pregare E nell'amore non so più sperare E quell'amore non so più aspettare Why: Italian for "You say that the river finds the way to the sea and like the river you will come to me beyond the borders and the dry lands You say that like a river like a river... the love will come the love... "Cedarwood Road"
The Lyrics: Sleepwalking down the road
And not waking from these dreams 'Cause it's never dead it's still my head It was a warzone in my teens I'm still standing on that street Still need an enemy The worst ones I can't see You can... you can Why: It would be terrible for this to go off in a group therapy session for people living with PTSD, because it is about Bono growing up during the troubles in Ireland. Not the lyrics, so much as the content in them.
