Parody Song Title:

"Three Cheers For Jean"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The EU constitution has been voted down by the French and (in all likelihood) the Dutch... which has spared our own Tony from the embarrassment of losing a referendum here.
Three Cheers for Jean
(Which one?)
French Jean
(Why what has he done?)
He voted "Non"
And saved UK from a-voting

Three Cheers to t' Dutch
(How much?)
The Dutch
We didn't know
That they too'd vote "No"
(They voted who?)
Oh, listen, do!
I mean the EU
(The who?)
EU
(No wonder that Blair's a-gloating)

Well, Blair would have held a referendum
(A what kind of dumb?)
A referen-dum
(Oh, a plebescite)
Oh, yes, that's right
But now, the chances are rather slight
Yes, they're *very* remote
For a sort of a vote
(For a sort of what?)
For a stay-in-or-not

So let's give the French three hearty cheers
(So let's salute their new revolution)
No more referenda for years and years,
(And adieu to EU constitution)

Three cheers for Jean!
(Come on!)
For Jean

Three cheers for Jacques!
(Chirac?)
For Jacques

Three cheers for a voted-down constitu-
tion
(Somebody tell me, what *is* the EU?)

Very good stuff, Phil, especially with the "what kind of dumb" line. Is this the first A.A. Milne parody on AmIRight?
John Barry - June 01, 2005 - Report this comment
Yes for "non" and "neen."

Nicely put, Phil. 555 John, there are plenty of Pooh parodies on this site.

Well, we have the same situation here, personally I don't really have an opionion on it but I can tell you other Europeans that with the referendum last year when the Euro was turned down here the ruling party officials are now almost wetting their pants with joy over what happened in France and that it looks like they can bury the issue of a new referendum on the constituion.

John Jenkins: If you look at the URL you can see that there is at least one more, the first parody to a new artist gets a "0" in the URL, the second a "1", the third a "2" (categories like misc and 80s counted separately). DonĀ't ask me why (ask Chucky) but we do have the same kind of logic at the hospital where I work; ward 5 is on the 4:th floor, ward 6 is on the 5:th and ward 7 is on the 6:th.

JJ - there is one other.. no prizes for guessing the author ;-)...from about three years ago. But your comment on it was only three months ago: was it really that forgettable?
Rick - No shit.
K1chyd - I think that's how Blair and co are feeling, too.

Witty version of a childrens' song. Would Winnie the Pooh ever go politicial?
John Jenkins - June 02, 2005 - Report this comment
Sorry about that, Phil. Memory is the second thing to go, but I think the reason that I asked the question is that I had "Disobedience" somewhere in the back of my brain.

Ah.. it's been lingering in the back of the mind... I can understand that ;-) No worries, John.
