The Lyrics

The controversy around Arizona's recent law rages on. The key phrases in TOS, a duet from "Annie Get Your Gun", were "never read it" and "stopping people".
ANITA

Rumors fly, Arizona's an upstart,
Must be till D.C. learns to do its part.
I've heard tales of what immigrants must show;
Wish I knew if the things I heard are so.

They say that border control is federal;
It's federal, laws may say.
But all the loons in big gov are liberal;
They're liberal, so they yell "Si!"

That new state law, they dread it,
Although they've never read it; [1]
They only know that profiling race is banned.
Grand!

This sting of Governor Jan's is sund'rable, [2]
Blunderful unlevel play;
So delay. [3]

FRANCISCO

Rumors fly and they often leave a doubt,
But you don't go to MySpace to find out.
Many things that you've heard are really faux.
I can share much advice that you should know.

You'll find that walling by gov is underplanned
And undermanned, so they stray;
And all those goons undercover [czars] understand
Fed wonderland, where may dwell few.

BOTH

You leave your house some morning,
And without any warning, [4]
They're stopping people, shouting "Get off our land!"
Canned.

To hold an illegal harms libs' wonderful
One World; fools in ev'ry day
Let them stay. [5]
[1] AG Eric Holder and DHS head Janet Napolitano admitted in separate hearings.
[2] Several legal challenges have been proposed, but none has been filed yet.
[3] NY Senator Charles Schumer asked that enforcement be postponed beyond July.
[4] President Barack Obama, without reading the law, posited an ice-cream-outing scenario.
[5] Congress never funded border-control provisions of the 1986 "Amnesty for 3 Million" Act, and suspension of recent fence construction funnels more traffic into Arizona.

Bravo! I love Irving Berlin...I actually knew his brother Wesley (surely you've heard of Wes Berlin). Let's hope the situation gets better before we have to say "Annie Get Your Gun"! lol ;D

Thanks & LoL, OMR; I could have chosen the Berlin version, but I wanted to put Bernadette Peters on the amiright site. The Frank Sinatra version omits the two intro stanzas.

Good shot, OMR. I'm a jazz player and everyone knows jazz educator and sage Leonard Feather; I used to work with his brother Chicken. Seriously, in April I played pit orchestra for "Annie Get Your Gun" (a PC version where Annie was played by a Native American girl). Barry, you have another hit on your hands here!
