The Lyrics

The Code of "HAM"murabi is specific and unequivocal. "If, in the pursuit of cheap laughs, a parodist stoops to the use of stereotypes, then he must make restitution by using his own stereotype ethnic background in parodies as well." Fair enough! Keep in mind that Kentucky is actually several regional cultures, each with its own customs, traditions, and accents. Northern Kentucky (my home) is as midwestern as Ohio or Indiana. The eastern mountains are the heart of Appalachia. The central Lexington area is all horse farms and Colonel Sanders. Parts of Louisville are as urban as any inner city. Western Kentucky (Bowling Green, Hopkinsville, etc.) may as well be Mississippi or Tennessee. But I think you'll get the stereotypical jokes in this parody. ;D

We've sent each gift - we've mailed each card.
Each family car's parked in our front yard.
It's Christmas in Kentucky - the whole clan will congregate.
We all will bring - much food to munch.
We'll drink beer and bourbon instead of punch.
We're feeling mighty lucky - to live in the Bluegrass State.

We're one big happy family - that cannot be denied.
Our toilet may be out of doors - but we still smoke inside.

We'll trim the tree - we'll hang the wreath,
And hope that nobody forgot their teeth.
So Merry Christmas, Bunky - wherever you may go.
It's Christmas in Kentucky - let's write our names in the snow!

We'll build a fire - have lots of fun.
We'll shoot all the snowmen with Dad's shotgun.
It's Christmas in Kentucky - to miss it would be a shame.
There's Grandpa Zeke and Grandma Bea.
The men will all gather at the T.V.
'Cause Christmas would be sucky - if we couldn't watch the game!

It's true there are no branches - here on our fam'ly tree.
We wear two hats - we're Democrats - but all vote G.O.P.!

So peace y-all - and be of cheer.
What day will The Derby be on this year?
We're acting downright plucky - have all the fun you please.
It's Christmas in Kentucky - with all of the hill-bill-ies!

Dang...that sure come out pretty! ;D

Sometimes you have to feel lucky to have or get things in Kentucky. Nice of you to mention Ohio and Indiana. Why? Because Peru, Indiana is where I was born, and Ohio is where I live now. :-) And as for you song, Well Done! I give it a well deserved 555! ;-)

The original is one of my favorite melodies. Love the images of folks writing their names in the snow or blasting snowmen with a shotgun. I once saw a family of inbreeds pull up to a friend's rural house in a diesel Cadillac. They piled out of the car and started shooting in six different directions at the same time. Your song brings back memories.

Very good... made me laugh, I might have to do one about the place in Washington State I was born (maybe "Christmastime in Skyway"), Skyway, Washington as as close to Watts or Compton as you'll get in that part of the country, and I remember school lockdowns and being kept in the house while there were drive-by shootings or SWAT Team activity. 5s.

LOL @ "Our toilet may be out of doors - but we still smoke inside." TOS said "The door is always open; the neighbors pay a call" -- now it's 2 bits? "In father's john, before he'd gone, would bless the outhouse ... "? ;=) 555

Fantastic OMR--loved the finely honed atmospherics in general and the 'write names in snow' line in particular!
