The Lyrics

Christmas In July continues. I'm not so sure that I write best when dealing with politics and current events. I would much prefer to be more like Allan Sherman, Stan Freberg, or Weird Al than Tom Lehrer and Mark Russell. Perhaps it's merely the fact that I have an endless supply of raw material. ;D

There's misery for you and me.
There's no summer of the recovery.
We're taking all their pledges with multiple grains of salt.
The Congress balks, the White House talks,
It's too bad that all will not walk the walks.
The Prez poses and hedges - This whole mess is Bush's fault!

There's awful unemployment. The country's in the tank.
And yet some say "More Fannie Mae!" - you're right, it's Barney Frank.
The price of gas can kick your *ss.
The President calls for more tax to pass -
Let's soak the rich completely - they're parasitic slobs.
'Cause only us is D.C. - know how to create more jobs.

So do not fuss and do not cuss,
They'll just pass another big stimulus.
No jobs are "shovel-ready" - they're all laughing at the joke.
No need to fret - the country's set
If they raise the limit put on the debt.
But will that make us steady - or is a bunch of smoke?

O's professors and donors - his czars have made the plans.
And Trumpka? See, no company - must be in private hands!
I don't vote Tea but seems to me
We're all on the path to insolvency.
Spend out of a depression? It simply can't be done.
Perhaps O. will do something - when next year's election's won!

Richard Trumpka, head of the A.F.L.-C.I.O, actually bragged to reporters in Wisconsin that he is in touch with the White House every day and sees the President at least two or three times a week.

One of my favorite old Christmas songs (it would be). A great take on the current economic mess. The government thinks they're the solution, but, as Reagan said years ago, they're the problem. I like the lines about "multiple grains of salt" and "Barney Frank". Keep up the good work with Christmas in July. Politics brings out the worst in people, but the best in comedy.

I'd that someone could turn into a pillar of salt and blow over someone else's shoulder, and it wouldn't do any good for your country. ;-) But this parody does plenty of good for me, in the comical sense! 555! Great work OMR! :-)
