The Lyrics

I read something in the news that put my views on war over the edge. There is something on the books now known as the stop-loss policy which lets the government make soldiers serve longer than the agreed time. Looks like the troops in Iraq should get comfortable this season. This parody is from the POV of a soldier in Iraq.
I'm dreaming of a war Christmas,
Just like during Vietnam.
With stop-loss running,
And snipers gunning.
I can't buy a gift for Mom.

I'm dreaming of a war Christmas,
With every late night fire fight.
If my presence here doesn't seem right,
It's 'cause Christmas I have to stay to fight.

I'm dreaming of a war Christmas.
I hope the folks at home don't mind.
There's no weapons bunker,
No steel box klunkers,
Filled with arms we're here to find.

I'm dreaming of a warm Christmas,
With all my friends and family.
But until Iraq's a threat no more,
I have to spend my Christmases at war.
I apologize ahead of time to the impartials of AmIRight.

Good one Scathe. As Kerry once said during Vietnam, "Soldiers are dying for the bigest nothing in history. How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?" The big mistake our country made was electing Cheney in the first place.

Very well done. A scathing indictment of the stop loss policy.

Very nice job, it's just too bad everything you said is so true. I especially liked the last stanza. And great comment by Adam.
Phil Alexander - December 13, 2004 - Report this comment
Very well put, Scathe.

Good job Scathe- 511 to you, due largely to the fact that we stand on the opposite side of almost evry possible political issue. As to Adam and his boi (my shoutout to PTI's Mike Wilbon), since when is the removal of a hostile, oppressive, genocidal, war-like dictator a mistake? Was World War two a mistake as well, or was that somehow different? It is the right of every American to voice their stupid, left-wing, communist, tree-hugging, bleeding heart, utterly incorrect opinions, and that right has been secured because we have men brave enough to serve their country and leaders who, unlike Kerry, actually have the balls to kick some ass.
