The Lyrics

It is said that there are two sides to every issue. In parodic form and with indifference to this particular one, I’ve tried to present both sides concerning the impending sainthood of Father Junípero Serra (had to add an acute accent to the “a” to alter pronunciation).
He forced the native boys and girls
to convert to Christianity.
Some he was whipping;
many he tricked.
That’s Christian charity?

¿Qué? Serrá! Serrá!!
The word came down from Frankie:
Junípero was saintly.
¿Qué? Serrá! Serrá!!
A theocracy.

He prayed to God above:
“Please to make depart
what’s in their heads.
If not, I’ll rain blows
till they say “nay”
to their beliefs I dread.”

¿Qué? Serrá! Serrá!!
Some folks are asking frankly:
Junípero was saintly?
¿Qué? Serrá! Serrá!!
An autocracy.

He forced the children to intone
Ave Marias
effortlessly.
Or the hand of God
would make them sick—
deity gave VD.

¿Qué? Serrá! Serrá!!
What gives with the papacy?
Junípero was saintly?
¿Qué? Serrá! Serrá!!
Strange theology.

I see that you are assuming the role of "Devil's Advocate", a church official who presents arguments against a candidate for sainthood. In the end, God only knows. How did you select the spelling for your titles?

Had to alter the pronunciation of Serra, which accents the first syllable, so the final syll would be accented, Patrick.

And 'K is simply a contraction of OK.

What's the deal with sainthood anyway? Is this like the church's version of a posthumous Oscar? Did Trump vote for him?

I guess I should go to church more often, as I had never heard of Father Junípero Serra before. Again, great concept!

I get it now. Should have read more closely. I'm sure I heard of him in grade school.
