Parody Song Title:

"Carried Barack New Blue Virginia"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Virginia's legislature declared its state song to be politically incorrect, and Barack Obama became the first Democrat to win there since 1976. My lyrics should be acceptable to those solons in Richmond. See http://www.lyricsondemand.com/miscellaneouslyrics/statesongslyrics/virginiastatesonglyrics.html for the antebellum lyrics.
Carry me back to red Virginia;
That's ne'er forgotten 'mid the scorn new voters show;
There's where the words War Between States was not crime;
There's where this old whitey's heart now longs to go.
There's where I labored so hard in Manassas,
Day after day to raise yield of yellow corn.
No place on Earth do I love more sincerely
Than red Virginny, the state where I was born.

CHORUS

Carry me back to red Virginia,
That's ne'er forgotten 'mid the scorn new voters show;
There's where the words War Between States was not crime;
There's where this old whitey's heart now longs to go.

Carried Barack new blue Virginia;
There I must live 'till the weather turns my way.
Strong was the hold Dismal Party has squandered,
That's why Grand Old Party's life may pass away.
Financial crisis had long gored and tore me.
Barack was fleet, in that fight was bold to score.
Soon we'll be happy 'till he comes to borrow;
He'll care, he'll treat us, we'll never hurt no more.

Some bumpy pacing, Barry--at least per the midi I Googled up for a sing-along; maybe not per EA's version--but a generally well-stated lament ... and I say that as a Marylander who lived most of his growing-up years in The Old Dominion and who's ecstatic to see it undergo a long-overdue color correction--i. e., from red to blue. 455

PS "War Between the States" is just a long-winded variant of the factual (and equally neutral) term, "Civil War." If you really want to celebrate the Dixie viewpoint, why not refer, as I clearly recall the teachers and books in my New Orleans, LA, first grade classes having done, as "The War of Norther Agression"? :-)

Actually, Virginia hadn't voted Democratic since 1964. Ford won it in 1976. Ancient history now. The Strom Thurmond generation of Southerners is dead, the Jesse Helms generation is dying, the Trent Lott generation is losing power... and the generations after them are either voting Democratic or using a perceived idea of liberalism, rather than race, as the reason for voting Republican. By the time the Democrats nominate a successor to Obama in 2016, the idea that he (or she) could take Virginia won't be a shock to anyone.
