"My Way (The Blair version)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Inspired by a photo in the current issue of Private Eye, which has Tony Blair holding a microphone in front of the army in Iraq, with a headline "Blair entertains the troops", and the caption "And now, the end is near"... so I thought I'd finish it off.
And now, the end is near
And so I face a hostile nation
The people's voice is clear
And it's demanding resignation
I've made another speech
In "trust me, I'm a normal guy"-way
I'm going, but hear this:
I'm going my way

Mistakes, I've made a few;
But always found a handy scapegoat
Charles Clarke, Clare Short, Geoff Hoon
Fell on their swords: so, Gordon, take note
I've left my colleagues' rep-
Utations strewn along the highway
To Gordon, I say this:
I'm going my way

Yes, there were times, I thought you knew
We "borrowed" cash, a loan or two
No honours sought, though ain't it weird:
A loan "forgot", a peer appeared
Though policemen call, I'll bluff 'em all:
I'm going my way

I've argued, talked and sighed
I've (nearly) lied - there's no excusing
Dissent come from inside
Whisp'ring campaigns - my grip I'm losing
To think of all I've done
Ingratitude in such a sly way
But, go? No, I won't leave
I'm going my way

For where's a man who's fit to lead?
Not Beckett, Hodge or even Reid
Though wars and scandals may disgrace me
Who really thinks they can replace me?
I look around... Who? Gordon Brown?
I'm going...
Some day

Good job, even though I thought it was gonna be about the Blair Witch Project--but that can be another parody! 555

Well, I had a really clever, witty comment, Phil..but the site never let me submit it...it kept "twitting"...even though I never submitted in the first time...are they trying to tell me something? Anyway, you did a fine job and I was going to point out how on THIS side of the pond we have to multiply all the fiascos and malfeasances you point out by about 100. Only I said it in a much, much clever and humorous way...but you'll just have to take my word on that...5's ~ ~ ~

Excellent job, Phil...the sooner we see the back of Tone and his cronies, the better. The only problem being: look at the opposition. Cameron? Puh-lease. 555

The way Blair's going about leaving the cabinet IS like one of Sinatra's farewell tours!

Two 1s? I didn't realize Blair was still so popular...
Yoidy - you must be thinking of his wife, Cherie
Paul - that must have been the "wit" filter, then
K - don't forget Ming the Merciless... OTOH...

Very well done with "peer appeared" and other clever lines.
