Parody Song Title:

"The Bill That Can Carry (ObamaCare)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

During the Great Depression, my father opened a dental practice and began a family. He needed a wife far less pampered than the woman described in TOS, so he hated those lyrics as well as FDR's social policies. Ironically, 64 years later I find in them a vehicle to spoof the current US attempt at socializing medicine, to be sung by the courier between House, Senate and Oval Office.
The bill that can carry will have to be
As lofty and pink as Ted Kennedy.
The bill that all disown [1]
Welfares Latins in places where dwelling, they've grown, [2]

Assails and abolishes "failed" health care,
But spares old guard unions from extra fare.
'Stead of quittin', scribes have written
Text to blur, can't concur on what's fittin'. [3]

House bill I can carry for surly Prince Harry to see. [4]

Details will be polished with spin and flair;
They'll pare some revisions that they don't share.
Heads are splittin' 'cause we're gittin'
Hexed health care to compare with Great Britain. [5]

That bill I can carry for President Barry's decree.[6]
[1] No Democrat wants his fingerprints directly on this legislation.
[2] Alludes crudely to a near-future blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants.
[3] House & Senate disagree on language, and some call parts unconstitutional.
[4] Continuing the reconciliation process after the House's "deem & pass" maneuver on the Senate bill.
[5] British law was written in the same year (1946) as TOS.
[6] As I submit this, the final outcome is unknown.

Better fits to TOS are "demolishes" for "abolishes", "Harry's trustee" for "Harry to see" and "burly King" (in the Chicago mold)for "President". Senator Reed as Majority Leader is not the direct recipient.

It has come to pass. But, unlike the bill, this parody is not a travesty. Bravo, BJM.

When medicare was enacted during the LBJ administration, the House Ways & Means committee projected the cost as 12 billion dollars through 1990 (taking into acount inflation). In 1990 the cost was actually 107 billion dollars. This bill will either bankrupt the country or reduce the quality of healthcare to that of a third world country. Oh, and 555 for the well thought out parody.

The current system is FUBAR and unsustainable. This bill can't be any worse. Good parody, BTW.

Parody was good, but I agree with John Barry - just helped my sister get through her tax return and realized about a third of her income (cut back because of our greedy bankers and subprime borrowers) was going toward health care and it wasn;t covering much of anything when she broke her wrist. The current system was broken years ago. This may not be any better, but now, something must be done to change it.
