Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

California just elected a new old (former) male governor over a woman with business savvy, assuring more liberal policies, budget shortfalls and higher taxes on fewer people in the Golden State. CHFUDNKTOS.
The state seat at Sacramento
Is the maddest part of town,
And if you go down there
You'd better just beware of a man named Jerry Brown.

Now Jerry's more than trouble;
You see, he stands for legal pot.
All the downtown ladies call him tree-trunk hugger;
All the men just call him shot.

And it's mad grad [1] Jerry Brown,
The baldest man in the whole damned town,
Sadder than a '60s song [2]
And greener [3] than a backyard frog.

Now Jerry, he's a spender,
And he liked when taxes rose;
And he likes to rave at high-toned flings
In front of every donor's nose.

He got a trusty SmartCar rental;
He got an Element for two.
He got a paintball gun in his pocket for fun;
He got a laser on it too.

And it's fad-plaid [4] Jerry Brown,
The baldest man in the whole damned town,
Sadder than a '60s song
And greener than a backyard frog.

Swell replay out of years ago,
Jerry's runnin' twice [1]
Against a free-market star,
That eBay dame Whitman, and dough-fat Meg could slice.

Well, he cast his spies upon her,
And big trouble soon would dawn,
'Cause Jerry Brown learned a lesson:
No sessions with his staff while a cellphone's on.

And it's bad, sad Jerry Brown,
The baldest man in the whole damned town,
Sadder than a '60s song
And greener than a backyard frog.

Well, those few men cooked the right wing,
And though one called Meg Whitman "whore",
Jerry since kept their big jaws muzzled;
With apologies [5] he would score.

Well, they cast Blue votes in Fresno
And in L. A. and San Fran,
'Cause Jerry Brown was impressin',
Aggressin' with the knife of a zealous man.

And it's glad cad Jerry Brown,
The baldest man in the whole damned town,
Sadder than a '60s song
And greener than a backyard frog;
Yeah, sadder than a '60s song
And greener than a backyard frog.
[1] Alludes to his former term.
[2] Refers to protest folksongs of the decade, not pop songs.
[3] Means both business acumen and environmental bias.
[4] Refers to '60s fashions.
[5] "It was a private call that was inadvertently recorded, and we're investigating whoever said it." That passes as apology for liberals.

Governor Moonbeam is back. When he was first elected wasn't he legendary for his frugal personal lifestyle? Of course that doesn't necessarily govern how he would spend other people's money. Aren't paintball guns and most knives banned in Californication?

This song certainly scores a 555, but I don't think there is any need to apologize for that. ;-)

I thought the OS was done by Jim Croce, not Frank Sinatra.

Patrick: Thanks; my "laser paintball gun" was a poke at his anti-weapons policies. His "knives" are political.
WCJIN: Thanks; I hope that I "scored" the "interminable" governor.
Rpollck: I used FS's version; click the link after my intro. I don't know Jim Croce; I doubt that he was born before FS.

Ah yes...the return of Governor Moonbeam. It's enough to make you nostalgic for California Governor Brown...Pat Brown! Way to go, BJM! ;D

People "with business savvy" are the ones who put us in this mess. This is how much big business is despised in this country now: The people of California were willing to bring back Jerry Brown. Conservatism doesn't work!

Meg Whitman is a megalomaniac with too much money. I'm ecstatic that she lost. That said, I don't expect much from Jerry. CA is too far over the cliff for anyone to save.

Don't blame me. I voted for Meg! But I was shocked yesterday when Arthur Laffer, the economist who advised President Reagan and helped implement supply side economics, called Jerry Brown the best governor California ever had (remember Reagan was also governor of California). Laffer specifically cited Brown for doing a great job of implementing Proposition 13, the bill that keeps property taxes at reasonable levels. My recollection is that Brown did not like Prop 13 and was dragged kicking and screaming to implement it, but maybe Arthur Laffer knows something that I don't.

Oh yeah, very good title and parody, Barry.

@Barry: The song was written and originally recorded by Jim Croce, even if Frank Sinatra was born first.

Love it, Barry, and on a personal note, the mention of Fresno is great -- I have a sister-in-law (and her husband) plus a brother-in-law living there. The brother-in-law calls the town the capital of Northern Mexico. He is not happy about Jerry's election; let's just say he disagrees with Art Laffer! And yes, it was Croce. Never heard Sinatra sing this one, although of course he may have.

MP: CA is moving left, into the Pacific; that's why it has so many pacifists. Who with business savvy caused the housing bubble -- Barney Frank or Chris Dodd?
OMR: There's obviously no relation between Pat & Jerry Brown.
JB: Your use of the expression "too much money" tells me you're a liberal.
JJ: Arthur laffer may know some things you (& I) don't, but not in this case.

I agree with ~Captain Jack de Barryl~ He describes our dire situation best . . .
