The Lyrics

Having overgrazed the grass in Zuccotti Park, Occupy Wall Street protesters decided to pay courtesy visits to some uptown profiteers' residences. I figured that during those treks, they could use a Depression-era envy song with short lines that could be sung in the echo style that they have perfected.
We're a couple of "Occs";
We flop at the city's "poks",
But we prefer McDonald's
O'er a spray in the "sit-ease" box. [1]
We've a couple of snorts
We hide from Manhattan's courts.
In June, July and August, [2]
We were mute about cheap imports.
No fancy billionaires would sup with me,
But we know how to get where most sip tea
Locally.

We would drive up the avenue,
But we have no People's Bus. [3]
We could skate up the avenue,
But skateboards would cause a fuss.
We would ride in a paneled bed,
But we have no pickup trucks.
So we'll walk up the avenue;
Yes, we'll walk up the avenue,
'Though to walk up the avenue is what sucks.

Wall Street bankers tar we;
They spent all our currency.
We'd open up their safes,
But all they've got there is policy.
We're the Ivy League grads
Who answer Help Wanted ads.
We'd like to tell you that a job's a right,
Or we can't be dads.
The HR shills [4] are baiting, fat's their club;
But how are we to get hired? That's the rub!
That's the nub.

We could march up the avenue,
But we haven't got a band.
We could fly up the avenue,
But the course we have not planned. [5]
We could ride in a trolley car,
But our signs would never fit.
So we'll walk up the avenue;
Yes, we'll walk up the avenue;
Yes, we'll walk up the avenue; then we'll sit.

We would skip up the avenue,
But we haven't got a rope.
So we'll walk up the avenue;
Yes, we'll walk up the avenue;
Yes, we'll walk up the avenue, fraught with hope.
[1] Port-a-potties, if there are any.
[2] September 17 was Day 1. One of their demands is import tariffs.
[3] Volkswagen, the 1960s' vehicle of flower children.
[4] Human Resources department personnel.
[5] Flight plans must be filed with the Federal Aviation Administration.

In line 2, "poks" should be "pawks" and a better line 15 is "But pedestrians would cuss." Near the end, "jump-rope" clarifies "a rope."

BJM - Excellent choice of OS (it's from Easter Parade and they wore tramp costumes). The concept alone is superb, and this is first-class writing. I fear that Obama has unleashed and empowered the most unstable "movement" since Mao and his wife created the Cultural Revolution. ;D
