Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) was a Dutch graphic artist known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints that feature impossible constructions, explorations of infinity, architecture, and tessellations. (A tessellation, or tiling, of the plane is a collection of plane figures that fills the plane with no overlaps and no gaps.
Escher, kinda mazelike,
Nowhere go those stair flights.
Escher, his stuff's crazed. Like, wow!

Etch man, side by side he
Opposed hands; they're very tidy.
Sketch hands. . .potheads mighty wowed.

High today, high today
When they start to peak, they will say:

"Escher, kinda mazelike!"
Stoners, they will stare right
At amazing stuff for hours.

By the way, his forte
Woodcuts, [mezzo]tints litho[graph]s, though I say:

"Etcher." As with crazy
Gogh, where skies are hazy:
Netherlands, of tasty Gou'.*

*short for Gouda, pronounced approximately like "howda," with the "G" like a hard "g" mushed together with an "h" and gargled deep in the throat.

I asked for it, and I got it. Escher's favorite songs would've included "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," "Stairway to Heaven," and anything by the Five Stairsteps.

This is a subject I never expected to see! Your parody makes me want to look up more of his crazy, but obviously inspired designs. : )

Missed this on the other day - sorry John. Escher was always a fave of mine, particularly the flatworms. And of course any artist that makes it to the cover of a Mott the Hoople album HAS to be great... ;-)
