Two weeks before Saint Patrick's Day is not too soon to sing TOS. The USA, like Ireland, won independence from British rule; but can citizens keep their freedoms from central government much longer?
Obama's clear, it's him we fear; this news is goin' round:
Small bus-i-ness by law's forbid to grow lest it be bound. [1]
No more Tax Freedom Day we'll keep, its date is off the screen, [2]
For there's more cruel laws ag'in' not sharin' of the green.

I met with new Tea Parties, and they helped me understand;
When I'm bled house-poor by IRS, then with them I'll stand.
'Tis the most repressful country that ever I have seen,
For they're jailin' men and women here for not sharin' of their green. [3]


So if the burden we must bear be budget's cruel red,
Let it remind us of the treasure citizens have shed,
And pull the green band from your hat, and throw it where you trod.
But never fear, 'twill take root there, not Astroturf but sod. [4]

When laws discourage businesses from growin' as they grow,
When employees at Christmas-time their bonus dare not show,
Then we will change our country till it pares its spending lean.
But till that day, we'll plod, be stuck with more sharin' of our green.
[1] The threshold size (50 employees or so) above which taxes or fees are imposed.
[2] The fictitious date before which income taxes are paid in full for the average worker.
[3] This is not new for tax delinquents, but is proposed for not buying health insurance.
[4] A disparagement of Tea Partiers as not being grass-roots.

The more that government interferes in the marketplace and tries to pick, reward or punish winning or losing industries, lenders and borrowers, the slower will be the economic recovery and job creation.

This tune was running through my head just before I logged on to this site. You have done a masterful job with a fine old Irish rebel song. The time is coming when Americans will have to take up the rebel call again. I have a theory that a successful revolution needs a revolutionary anthem. You may well be onto something here. We'll solve the health insurance "crisis" by making everyone buy it, whether they can afford it or not. Then well solve homelessness by telling everyone to buy a house. As for hunger, "Well, let them eat cake".

I can imagine this song sung in an Irish Brogue! Great take in spoofing this Irish song collaborating with the economical/political issues! I just want to wish you an early St. Patty's Day! I don't mind sharing the green for the corned beef, cabbages, and soda breads! Slainte (Cheers) with 555 Guinness drinks with this one, Barry, me lad! Ditto on all comments above!
