The Lyrics

All who have experienced the agony and ecstasy of writing and polishing parodies should appreciate this tribute to their labor. See http://www.heptune.com/lyrics/prettygi.html for the original lyrics.
I have no ear for music,
But I have the songs ready-made.
I think up pretty surly
Words for ditty tunes that fade.
They flock together like birds of feather
Close in a bunched array.
I muddy words and music,
So I'm qualified to say:

A parody is like a malady --
You're gaunt, head's light, hair's gray.
You strive and strain for those taunts so arcane.
You stumble on, in marathon,
Bland puns that sound inane.

You can't escape; it drives you tremor-y,
A mourning psycho-loon.
You will leave it, hang-ten;
Come back, re-pen
'Til parody is just right, a witty boon.
If you sing this in public and people drop money, keep it; but drop a note to me at bjmitchel@att.net .

Excellent title and very well written...I do quite a few of these old chestnuts, myself...so, I know responses can be slow..

I didn't like the hang-ten/re-pen rhyme, but it was the best match to and then/again in the original. If you also don't like it, substitute suspend/amend. There I go, amending it again!
