The Lyrics

How some of you manage to post a song (or two or three) every day is beyond my ability to fathom! But here's to you... PS: OS also credited to the Irish Rovers on my Google search, so take your pick. :)
Oh me, Oh my, Oh poo
Another song I blew
April Fool-er, it now seems quite peculiar
Why did I write it? D’oh!
My talent, now I know.
The answer to *that* question
Isn’t yes—it’s no, no, no!

Does …
your …
parody lose its humor
On the desktop overnight
When you read it in the morning
Is it silly, lame, and trite?
Stuffed with overused clichés, and
Just no good for AmIRight?
Does your parody lose its humor
On the desktop overnight?

Song finished: rush of pride
To bed, and closed my eyes
But now I falter--
Lyrics somber as a Psalter…
Oh, it had prodigious ring
Every pun and joke took wing
But through the night I let it linger
Now it’s a stupid thing!

Does your parody lose its humor
On the desktop overnight
Does it seem banal and hackneyed
When you view it in the light?
Unoriginal, sophomoric, not a “5” would it invite?
Does your parody lose its humor
On the desktop overnight?

Degradation: die if “ones”
Fell heavy on my puns
[Sell soul, like Herr Faust,
To be pledged up at the AIR House!]
They’d voice their diss content
In flaming hot comment
And there would be no question
Just exactly what they meant!

Does your parody lose its humor
On the desktop overnight?
If the “Laughter Cops” arrested,
Would there be cause to indict?
Is your satire there sufficient
To draw barbs from Left *and* Right?
Does your parody lose its humor
On the desktop overnight?

On the desktop over-

[Hello, boys, I love ya- you inspire me to write
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Sat'day night!]

On the desktop over-

[A dollar is a dollar and a dime is a dime
I’d write another chorus
But I haven’t got a rhyme]

On the desktop overnight!

Always loved this silly old original..and your new version more than compliments it...I'm certain all of us parody pooches can relate and fit the mold...this one written without TT..but still T-rrific..

Fiddlegirl, this is brilliant in its simplicity, accuracy, and self-deprecation. Not a line wasted to gum up the works. Sometimes a storyline seems to just arrive in a flash and almost effortlessy write itself. Not exactly true, but I think you know what I mean. Anyway, this parody is so much funnier because it's so close to reality. Love it!

I can't tell you how many times I've posted parodies right after completion and then wondered the next day, "What was I thinking"...Great insight into to authoring process!!!...555!!!

Been there, flubbed that. You didn't though, on this wonderous effort(and still finding time to play turtle!!!)

AFW: I love the song, too, and the idea of "parody pooches" :)

Metaphors: "Sometimes a storyline seems to just arrive in a flash and almost effortlessy write itself."... I've heard that, but it never seems to happen to me! I'm happy to know, though, that we can all relate! :) Thanks for v/c

Leo: You??? You're brilliant- I love your parodies!!! :D

Mark Scotti: Hehehe! Thanks :D

OMR: It's a little harder to do on the fiddle, but it *does* happen... Thanks for v/c!

Phil: Thanks! [See, TT? My pacing is *just fine*! Phil says so.] ;)

Loved it! (Of course, I'm going to look at this comment tomorrow and wonder... WHAT HAVE I DONE!)

I have the *opposite* problem, alas: Brilliant idea strikes just before falling asleep, or in the middle of the night; scratch notes on pad by bed, get up next day, and can't read them -- but I *know* it was brilliant! .... so frustrating, and no, don't want to "wake up" enough to crank the puter...

What Phil Alexander said. TMGLTM, but "Laughter Cops / indict" was parodic genius. (My denial: "I did not have lexical relations with that woman.") 555 psalms of psraise.

Don't ever, EVER set up FG like that! (or me, for that matter, but of course, I'm much too gentlemanly to have taken advantage of your comment with a witty retort. And if you believe that, I have some land in the Everglades I'd like to sell you. Come during the dry season -- it avoids the mosquitoes.)

Very nicely done. Three 5's. Hits a little too close to home, though. ;-)

This is SUPERB, Fiddlegirl; and all too close to the bone. I have a HUGE folder of partially or fully completed parodies that seemed hilarious when I started them, but failed the giggle test when read in a more critical light. 555+

This and another parody written by Red Ant can be taken to mean that AMiright isn't merely a place to display writing talent. The message can be if there is no humor it means absolutely nothing. Not to mean that parodies with no humor have no talent but I guess people who want to write parodies with no humor should simply find another place to write parodies. I guess in some cases trying to submit a humorless parody on AMiright can be like trying to submit a country song on a hard rock station. No one would care since it does not fit the criteria. I think this is the message this parody gives to others.

Fiddlegirl - Also been there, done that and got my name on the official AIR T-shirt last year. And what Nick Z. said is partially true - I've seen some downright serious parodies out here that cut the mustard. I've written serious and if done right it works as well.

You get 5's just for thinking up this concept. Not doubt there is a slew of writers out here that wish they would have thunk it up. And yes I do know how to properly conjugate the infinitive "to think". =;-)

Medemia: Thanks! (I wonder that ever day... often from moment to moment.) ;)

Psalm Enchanted Evening (TT): :D :D :D

Doc OC: Many thanks for "scoping" this one out! (ha- I kill me.)

Thanks, Kristof R.: Nice to know we're all in this together! (and I *love* your parodies. When's the next one?)

Nick Z: I *hope* that's not the message! There are certainly well-crafted parodies at all ends of the humor spectrum here. Good writing is good writing, after all. Cheers. :)

Guy: "Thunk" is a perfectly legitimate verb in Texas. If some jackelope objects, just hit 'em with a tumbleweed!

Agree with TT and Phil specifically and all the other positive commenters in general... this was simply fabulous (in the least poofy sense of the phrase, of course) and soitainlee tops my 'Demento Funny Forty' for the week! Fiddle On!

It is called writer's block. Write whatever comes to mind and keep going. You may think it is stale, but others will give you 5's.
