The Lyrics

Before antennas got torn down
From rooftops spanning high
And Microsoft was just a gleam
In Bill Gates nerdy eye
When blackberry was still a bush
No cellphones and no text
When Michael Jackson had a nose
And Rubik's cube perplexed

Before there was a Paris Hilton,
Or Britney Spears to hound
When Jimmy Hoffa wasn't missed,
'Cause he was still around
When "Tricky Dick" was president
And Watergate untapped
When Billie Jean beat Bobby Riggs
And all the ladies clapped

A double digit Big Mac price,
And fifteen cents bought beer
The prophets still predicted doom
But better times were here..
Most people stayed at home and talked
Of space flight and TV..
And watched shows like old "Ironsides"
Old Raymond Burr played he

Good poem, I think you could actually turn this into a pretty epic original poem if you wanted to. I was getting into it and then it just kinda stopped. But that's the original poem's fault not yours.

Ironside and Perry Mason were two of a kind if you know what I mean.

Raymond Burr spent a lot of time in NorCAL. He had a ranchette in Sonoma county and my folks saw him frequently, at a restaurant in Rockaway Beach, Pacifica!

I liked it a lot AFW. Not only do I remember learning that poem "back in the day", but I remember your references as well.
You'll be happy to know that "Old Ironsides" still floats in Boston Harbor...the oldest commissioned ship in the US Navy. I saw it about a week ago when I drove someone to Logan Airport (you can see the ship from the highway). Once a year the ship is sailed around the harbor and "turned" so that both sides will wear evenly from the waves.
On a sadder note, I don't think Raymond Burr will be turned any time soon, although I can still hear his voice at the end of every Perry Mason episode saying, "isn't it true...etc..."

Great job on another poetry parody! Very articulate like always. Oh, when you mentioned the double digit on Big Mac price, I remembered a while back when I was a kid, they advertised a Big Mac for only 95 cents. Those were the days. I hope you can write more poem parodies someday. 555.
