The Lyrics

I'm a confirmed, unapologetic atheist. That doesn't mean I hate god (nothing to hate). It means I've not experienced anything to convince me there's a god. It doesn't mean I'm immoral or amoral, it means I don't have my morals handed down to me by a higher power. It doesn't mean I don't respect believers, it means I don't respect their belief system. I'm an enemy of blind faith, dogma, collective delusion and woolly thinking - and those who persecute others in the name of god.

So one-bomb me already. But I hope you enjoy my parody - it's not intended to offend, but to entertain, with the assistance of one of my favorite pre-rocknroll female singers, Peggy Lee - MISS Peggy Lee to you and me, the all-time queen of sexual innuendo. I'm not the first to say this, but in her prime, one flick of her eyelash is worth an hour of hip-grinding modern pop diva.

If you need any convincing, check out 'Why don't you do right?' with the Benny Goodman orchestra and her then husband, David Barbour, on guitar and you'll understand where Jessica Rabbit gets it from. You'll find it here. The OS, her most famous recording, you can check out here.
BELIEVER

Never know who's up above you
Never know why is there air
Never know for sure God loves you
I bet believer that's so hard to bear

You true believer, when you diss me
Even when you think you sight
Weaver of the dawnin',
Weaver of the starry night
Sun lights up the daytime
Moon reflects its light
I don't try to call it a name
And you know I'm gonna keep that right

And so believer, when you hiss me,
Even with hell-threat you fright,
Shiva got me yawnin'
Jeheeva and the same, Shi'ite

Everybody's got the fever
One True God, they all know
Neither is it such a new thing
Started million years ago

Bill O'Reilly, on the set
Richard Dawkins at took aim
When tides put their arms around Earth,
He said 'Must be God - can't explain!'

Dawkins a-seether: 'Well we know this:
Even as a proven truth
Heaver - of the tide? Ah!
Gravity of moon, forsooth!'

Captain Cook and Charlie Darwin
Sailed to lands no one knew where
Beagle and Endeavor, filled 'em
With species that could not be there

Science achiever, hits and misses
Levering us to new-found height
Grieve ya, superstitious!
Experiment for sweet insight

Now we bask in their bold glory
Into the unknown we wade
Replicate evidence and sieve her
Corroborate, call spade a spade

Be fact retriever - don't dismiss them
Even as we live and learn
Fever, gonna fizzle
No, nobody is gonna burn

Nobody is gonna burn
Faith-free, new ways ahead we earn
What a lovely way to learn

Well thought-out and executed. At least we can agree on the divinity of Peggy Lee. ;D

I think you deserve kudos simply because you Went There - but on top of that, the lines are sharp and keenly-observed without being contemptuous of religion, a strategy which can be hard to pull off. I'm not afraid of being struck by ligntning - I'll happily vote this a 555 :^)
