The Lyrics

When listening to The Speech later today, remember Joe Wilson's 2010 State-of-the-Union outcry. Be skeptical, like Sportin' Life in Porgy and Bess.
No faintness or fairytale glow,
But saintly, prepared for the show.
The things dat Obama
Do read wid great drama,
Dey ain't necessarily so.

Debt ceiling was tall, he did sigh; [1]
Must be Bush's fault, he would cry. [2]
He fought Great Recession
And strayed to Depression.
Debt ceiling now vaults to the sky!

Obama's solutions are stale.
His stimulus boost soon did pale.
More Fannie and Freddie
And jobs shovel-ready
Have helped our economy ... fail.

Li'l Barry was bound by a dream;
Still carries it 'round with esteem.
He wrote that his father'd
Been by fairness bothered; [3]
He wished skim milk floated on cream.

While Republican poll numbers grow,
Well, he cain't rest and tarry below.
He tells kool-aid drinkers
Tea Party's all stinkers,
But it ain't necessarily so!

So get some regs looser,
Don't slap each producer
Wid clean rules till dey halt!
Oh, I takes green gospel
Whenever it's pos'ble,
But wid a grain of salt.

No budget in nine hundred days! [4]
Res'lutions give line items raise. [5]
But who calls him less for
Dat? Not White House Press Corps,
Whom showman Jay Carney can daze.

I'll hear Barack's speeches but know,
Dey ain't nece -- ain't nece
Ain't nece -- ain't nece --
Ain't necessarily ... so!
[1] Senator Obama in 2006 said heavy debt would burden future generations.
[2] As President, he inherited every crisis ... except those he created.
[3] Barack Obama Sr. strongly opposed colonialism and capitalism. The next line is a metaphor for elevating the downtrodden.
[4] The FY2010 budget passed both houses and was signed early in 2009. The House but not the Senate passed a budget for FY2012.
[5] Continuing resolutions simply boost all department allocations uniformly.

BJM - Bummertime, 'cause the admin' is sleazy. Excellent Ira Gershwin, by George! Perhaps we should do the entire opera about the Congress and President...Porky and Mess! ;D

OMR: Thanks; we'd better hurry, summer's almost gone -- so is USA.
"Whom" in line 36 doesn't fit the dialect; "Dat" will do. ;^)

I will be listening tonight, too; but the President has been downgraded so he will have a lot smaller audience than tonight's football game. Good stuff, BJM. I'm not sure that Republican (House) poll numbers are growing, but they are not dropping as fast as the Presiden's.

Great writing.

I was already in the mood for some "soul" music -- attended a memorial service for a friend, and a wonderful black singer sang "Amazing Grace" and "Oh Happy Day" (I played behind the second one) -- wonderful! This just adds to it. Not sure she would have sung this, but I can always dream. Maybe I can find one who would.

Thanks, all v/c's. JJ: I meant polls of presidential candidates vs. Obama.
DM: Give my condolences to your friend's family. Look for a male singer.
JB: Is "fress" a new word or a typo? Obama's plan has no pork, right? ;^)

How come just about every stinkin' time Obismal gives a speech on how he's got a brilliant new plan to save the country, the stock market tanks the next morning? Y'all heard about $500 a plate political fundraisers? A Dennys Grand Slam breakfast will cost $500 by the time this loser POTUS is done with the economy. This parody is worth $555 a plate!

TDJK: To be fair, the dive may be related to Europe's troubles, but his speech should have offset that, right? Thanks for including the 11% meals tax on your plate. ;^)
