Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"The Rhymes of the Ancient Parodist, II"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

No one rose up to right the slight
Of grievous felony
Not ill or miffed by boss’s death
The crowd talked leisurely

No, the louts seemed not at all to mind
That chief scourge couldn’t holler
At them or bray. He said, “OK!”
And turned back down his collar

In fact, he’d done a swellish thing
Away the jerk to blow
A menace purge—he had killed the scourge
That used to wheeze and crow
“A wretch!” said they. “You’re urged to stay
Besides, where could’st thou go?!

“Try swim, th’art dead; to this ship wed
Are thee for all this trip.”
’twas true, their word, swim would be absurd
He would stay on the ship
And while away the marine day
While at the grog to nip

Out of the blue he asked the crew
If they had Wifi free
He had a thirst to packet-burst
And write more parody

How he was pleased when they said, “Wow!
You’ll find the parity
Bits fast will burst; we are not cursed
With worst: AT&T

“The bytes do not through copper fly!”
And already a tune
Was passing down into his hands
He’d type it and quite soon

Play, some wordplay, wordplay mainstay
Was just what was his notion
He’d write about his stay on ship
As they sailed on the ocean

Water, water was the fare
The group Purple, not pink
Water, water everywhere
But smoke upon the drink

Now at the Deep a shot he’d like
It should be quite easy
Simplistic lyrics like these beg
For slyest parody

So he would rout this tune about
A fire that danced at night
On water that in Montreux roiled
The effort would be slight

Now in his dream he’d work the words
In the spirit of Edgar Poe
Into it would creep a succubus
As a groupie who would blow

And use the tongue that’s in her mouth
To slither ’round the root
No, instead he would title it
“Choked in the Water”—cute!

Then well away on the Macbook
His efforts had begun
He sent it ’cross to Mondo Monde[green] boss
On-deck fun in the sun!

This made lots of other parodies walk the plank! At&t line was especially funny, I've had so much trouble with them recently with stuff not working
