Song Parodies -> "Al Qaeda Leader"

Original Song Title:

"Purple People Eater"

Original Performer:

Sheb Wooley

Parody Song Title:

"Al Qaeda Leader"

Parody Written by:

Phil Alexander

The Lyrics

Well, on the mountainside, I saw this guy
Had an AK47 and real wild eyes
I saw his bin was laden, I thought, coo-ee
Looks like the Al Qaeda leader to me

It was a wild-eyed, well-armed, beardy Al Qaeda leader
(wild-eyed, well-armed, see the Al Qaeda leader)
A wild-eyed, well-armed, fear the Al Qaeda leader
Looked deranged to me (Och aye)

Well he came down so fast, had no time to flee
I said Mr. Al Qaeda leader, don't kill me
I heard him say as I thought "oh, hell"
Allah-u-akhbar, now die infidel!

It was a wild-eyed, well-armed, screaming Al Qaeda leader
Wild-eyed, well-armed, scheming Al Qaeda leader
wild-eyed, well-armed, dreaming Al Qaeda leader
Sure looks crazed to me (One gun?)

I said Mr. Al Qaeda leader, hold your fire
I can help you get to heaven, or even higher
Want to show you the power of rock and roll
It's gotta be better'n livin' in a hole

Come out your hole, rock and roll, beardy Al Qaeda leader
Won't you come, see my bomb, beardy Al Qaeda leader
(With your long beard)
Beardy Al Qaeda leader
This you'll like to see

I said "Mr Al Qaeda leader, it won't take long
Just try my rock-n-roll suicide bomb
I handed it over, I ran out the room
It went boop boop aboopa lopa lum bam... BOOM!

Well bless my soul, rock and roll, bye-bye Al Qaeda leader
None too smart, blown apart, bye-bye Al Qaeda leader
Can't stand long beards
On an Al Qaeda leader
Sure looks dead to me (Al Qae.. who?)

As I went my way, well, what do you know?
I saw a grey beard lying there on the snow
So, that's how I'm gonna finish this song:
Rock and roll suicide bombing along

[Instrumental]

..to kill ya'

A veritable "Garden Of Indescribable Delights" which required no martyrdom to qualify. Here are 555 virgins as promised. ;D

The power of rock can save us all. This one begs for a live performance.

Amazingly great parody. Too many good lines to mention, but you did a good job of not crossing the line between description and stereotyping. 5s!

Wonderful song. Looking forward to the day when life (or death in this case) imitates your art.

:-) Thanks, everyone

McKludge - if you're around Watford Library on Thursday evening...

NorCALcakes - I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I'm not an Aussie

Phil, before I judge the pacing on this, is "Qaeda" three syllables east of the Pond? Kai-ee-da? .. In the US, it's Kai-da (two syllables) which makes all of the subs for "flying purple people eater" one syllable short. Cheers.
Ann Hammond - November 11, 2009 - Report this comment
he he and ^ the one syllable sort
Phil Alexander - November 11, 2009 - Report this comment
What do you think, TT? I'll give you a clue: "Al Qaeda" has one fewer syllable than "Aluminium" ;-)

Have to admit, it never even occurred to me that some people might pronounce it wrong :-p

Extreeeemestly funny!

England and America -- two nations divided by a common language....

Well, if you put only three in "military", "secretary", etc., (which is where Andy Primus got me -- hey, where is he these days?) I suppose they all average out... :) FWIW, dictionary.com, which *does* include both UK- and US-specific pronunciations, gives only two to "Qaeda", regardless of Pond-side, as does WikiP, which has plenty of en-BR editors.

Given that, *very* clever spin on OS. And good to know that we can make up our own pronunciations of words rather than "worK' to fit parody to OS :)))) .... "mal-Al Quaeda leader"? ... Or two versions of AIR -- British AIR-ways and US AIR? roflmao! ... Nicely articulated lore-y, or as we say, a Tractor-Trailer full of Fives. :)

:-) AIUI, the correct Arabic Al Qa'ida is closer to "ka-idder", which scans but loses the "leader" rhyme - dictionary.com is reflecting an anglicised common usage, doesn't necessarily have much to do with how it should be pronounced.

You'll enjoy this one, TT:

It's like the multiple ways you can spell the name of the leader of Libya. Kadaffi? Qadafi? Gaddafi?

I have heard Qaeda pronounced "Kay-dah," Keye-dah," "Keye-ay-dah," and "Keye-ee-dah: by different US newscasters.

Seems we should just ask a member of the group to say it.... (lol) IDEA! ..Phil, call Bin Laden, and tell him you need him for a *crucial" input on your song honoring the group, and you need to meet him in person to go over it. Then when he shows up.... (I am soooo cle-ver!!) :-)

MdKludge: True, but transliteration wasn't the question here -- almost always hear MK/G/Q's name pronounced the same. Good point on the pronunciation, though I don't remember hearing three syl in the US. .... which is why I checked with Phil before bombing him lol.
Stan Hall - November 22, 2009 - Report this comment
Good one, Phil. I've long been a firm believer that "bombing" with packages of blue jeans, trendy sneakers, and rock & roll tees would win a war quicker by causing the enemy to become the one saying "We have seen the enemy and he is us." :-)

(SOTM) Really enjoyed this one!
Peter Andersson - December 29, 2009 - Report this comment
Maybe the organization will go into civil war over the pronounciation - we should be so lucky! :-)
bobpiecheese - December 30, 2009 - Report this comment
(SOTM) As far as I'm concerned, if a word has many pronunciations, go for the one that suits the pacing. As for the parody...pretty good, though politics ain't really my thing. 555, I guess.
Phil Alexander - December 30, 2009 - Report this comment
er.. bob.. "politics"??
Max Power - December 30, 2009 - Report this comment

For being a foreginer you sure have a knack for Americanized political parodies.
Phil Alexander - January 01, 2010 - Report this comment
Matthias - where's the politics? and "Americanized"? It's spoofing a beardy guy in a cave somewhere in the Middle East, based on the really rather silly concept of a "rock 'n' roll suicide bomb". Did you actually read any of this other than the title?
