The Lyrics

I pose a question for Barack and Michelle Obama, regarding Chicago's Trinity Church and its former pastor Jeremiah Wright Jr. See various Protestant hymnals for the tune and original lyrics.
Were you there when he threw his "G.D." sword
At America's youthful pride, and roared,
"Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo-oo-oh.
"Come time to pause, all ye assembled in this temple,
"And declare long abuse through white folks' Lord."?

Were you there when they wailed hymn "B.L.T."
While he dared liberate theology?
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo-oo-oh.
Sometimes, his cause is to dissemble till they tremble.
Were you snared or just failed to hear and see?

You were there when he prayed but did not fume;
Climbed the stair to be braided, bride with groom.
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo-oo-oh.
In time, his jaws came to be nimble clanging cymbal
That you shared, so you stayed and sealed your doom.
Their "doom" is only political. If you sing this in church and people donate money, keep it; but drop a note to me at bjmitchel@att.net .

Well done - ironic use of African-American spritual.

GD? I'm not sure what this means.

That can't be TSB commenting as the real TSB never ever comments/

TSB: Wright said G.. d.... America 3 times in 1 sermon; maybe he meant gosh darn, greedy devil and genocidal demon. Although you did not ask, BLT is not a sandwich here.

Certainly to the point. Doubt Barack and wife would answer, of course. I'd love to use this in church but, partly to keep folks in the pews, I don't sing, I play. Many folks give lots of thanks for that. :)
