The Lyrics

This version of an old Scottish song is either 4 days late or 361 days early. It spoofs solo or collaborative parody writing, and is the long-awaited sequel to my A Parody Is Like a Malady. By the 5th stanza, I was almost at a loss for words.
Should parodic rants be forge-wrought
And clever thoughts opined
From old and plaintive lyrics, taught
In drawl or language fine?

Chorus:
For old folks sang with wine and beer,
Foretold new-fangled line.
We'll make new couplets, mind-stress, fret
Scores polled by gang on-line.

And surely you'll tweak your mint stuff,
And surely I'll tweak mine.
We'll shake, drink up two Guinness, get
Poor mauled and dangling line.

[Chorus}

We two had fun throughout the days
And gored the songs once fine.
We've pondered many a cheery hoot;
Enthralled, we'd hang supine.

[Chorus}

We two have chortles as we churn,
From boring puns decline;
But seize ingenious phrase explored,
Through scalding language shine.

[Chorus}

And here's a hand, my trusty friend,
And give a hand to mine;
We'll take out spite, goodwill we've sought
For altered slang divine.

[Chorus]

Great use of language. Let us resolve to repeat the chorus, rather than just inserting (chorus). Makes the whole performance a lot easier to read.

@ Patrick: Point taken; I've heard that one should let others (e.g., spouse or friends) suggest one's New Year's resolutions. @ OMR: Some words are confusing. By "shake" I meant "shake hands" or agree; that could be "break", meaning pause. "Hang supine" meant relax with backs on the floor.
