The Lyrics

(My title does not appear in any line; it's one word-sub phrase I couldn't work into the lyrics. Maybe it's what we'll get in the "soup line" below.)
The original song expressed a longing for better days gone by. If the US Congress and President fail to put the national budget on a sound basis today, all citizens can sing my lyrics at 11:59 PM before falling over the "fiscal cliff."
Should all Bush tax cuts be forgot,
Forever dropped behind?
Should Clinton tax rates be our lot,
Obama's gang define?

For small Bush tax rates pine next year;
For Clinton tax rates whine.
Feds' take goes up; O's mind is set,
Forestalling those who shine. [1]

And poorly we'll detour this drop,
And surely we'll decline;
And we'll take a cup, behind jet set,
For all in long soup line.

For small Bush tax rates pine next year;
For Clinton tax rates whine.
Feds' take goes up; O's mind is set,
Forestalling those who shine.

We've too long gone without a raise
And paid the healthcare fine.
We wonder if money is nearly moot,
Since dollar's less than dime. [2]

For small Bush tax rates pine next year;
For Clinton tax rates whine.
Feds' take goes up; O's mind is set,
Forestalling those who shine.

Wee biz'ness starters inward burn
From morning sun till dine;
But freeze when fee hikes raid their hoard,
Join unemployment line.

For small Bush tax rates pine next year;
For Clinton tax rates whine.
Feds' take goes up; O's mind is set,
Forestalling those who shine.

Welfare's a hand-up; just pretend
It's free in hand-out line.
We'll make a right what Wilson [3] sought
For all who hang supine.

For small Bush tax rates pine next year;
For Clinton tax rates whine.
Feds' take goes up; O's mind is set,
Forestalling those who shine.

[2] Compare a 1962 dime to 2012's dollar.
[3] Thomas Woodrow Wilson, a Progressive President 1913-1921, favored "social justice" and gave the US a Federal Reserve Bank and an income tax.

BJM - Some very appropriate "Burns" in this parody. Nicely done. ;D
