Parody Song Title:

"The Gun Was Carried Here By Dad"

Parody Written by:

Barry J. Mitchel

The Lyrics

This is a tragic tale of a hunting accident or a family feud, obtained by twisting the words of TOS.
I want a gun
Just like the gun 'twas carried here by dad.
(Oh!) Stock had a burl
And the barrel swirled
Fat bullets, copper-clad.

(Gee whiz!) A good-old flash would whirl death dart so true,
(Hum!) Spun above to bloody elks or gnu.
I want a gun
Just like the gun that buried dear grand-dad.

I still have an old revolver that belonged to my great grandfather. An elderly aunt once told me of some adventures in which the family used it to shoot at someone trying to break into their house, how another relative used it to run off her no-good, cheating husband, and how the girls would take the streetcar to the stockyards to give the gun to their dad when they heard there was going to be labor troubles. I wish I had written down the tales at the time. I bought the old clunker from my uncle for $15 when he needed money one day. Haven't shot it in years, it's around 1895 vintage and intended for light black powder ammo only.

@Patrick: Thanks for your appropos family/gun story of "the way we were."
I suggest these changes: in line 2, "nearby" for here by" and in line 7, "and shoved" for "above". "Elk" and "gnus" are recognized alternative plurals, but didn't fit TOS as well.

BJM - In my first two years of work, I taught in the Hatfield/Mc Coy country of West Virginia and worked under several of Devil Anse's descendants. But I digress. This is truly BJM - short, direct, and on target. ;D
