Original Song Title:

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"There’s Rich Melisma at Christmas"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

There’s rich melisma in Christmas
carols that are sung at Christmas.
There’s rich melisma in Christmas
carols that we all hear.

When writing these things,
composers will spin,
sometimes, a bit of melisma,
as in “de-ear” for “dear.”

Extra syllables are put in,
extra syllables are pushed in;
also, extra notes are put in—
as in “bee-eer” for “beer.”

There’s rich melisma at Christmas,
in carols we sing at Christmas.
To much melisma we’re list’in’
when it’s that time of year.

When writing these things,
composers will spin,
sometimes, a bit of melisma,
as in “pee-eer” for “peer.”

I’ve nixed melisma in this bit,
but for examples in this bit
And one more melismatic bit:
He-e-e-e-e-ere.
