The Lyrics

This is a transcript of a tech support conversation I've just had... well, nearly. It did contain references to the TCP/IP API (which made me think of this song), but was *much* more complicated. Sigh.
I'll be pinging your computer when it runs
I'll be pinging your computer when it runs
I'll be pinging your computer
Through the net via this router
I'll be pinging your computer when it runs

With the TCP/IP API
Internetworking IP API
It's Microsoft IP , yes, MS IP
TCP/IP API

I will set the right port number when it runs
I will set the right port number when it runs
I will set the right port number
Hope the firewall's not too dumb-a
I will set the right port number when it runs

Chorus

I will check for missing packets when it runs
I will check for missing packets when it runs
I will check for missing packets
If I find 'em I'll say "fack it"
I will check for missing packets when it runs

Chorus

And I'll read the error log file when it runs
Yes I'll read the error log file when it runs
I will read the error log file
Though it seems a total dog pile
I will read the error log file when it runs

Chorus

Though it may yet be a while before it runs
Yes, it may yet be a while before it runs
Though it may yet be a while
'Cause the damn thing won't compile
Aarrgh! It may yet be a while before it runs...

The operative phrase here: "When it runs." 0101s.

This must be about my private PC since I moved. I´m on the other end of one of those conversations since two weeks back. Luckily I can still use this one at work. :-)

*seethes* YOU FORGOT THE YEE-HAWS. Brilliant anyway - but I'm sure we expect nothing less from El Phander. 5's.

I look forward to a time when we may look back at the Windows days and LOL!!! Fine work, Phil!

Absolutely brilliant. Course, computer parodies of this nature could be far worse than this one, and still get 5'd from me ;-).

Cor... what a reception! Thanks, guys (and gals, of course). I thought this was kind of fun on the phone - as soon as you say the phrase IP API out loud, it makes you want to yee-haw "API! " ... well, it makes *me* want to, anyway (OK, so I didn't write them in, EmiLoca, but I was *thinking* them). The only inaccuracy is in the last verse: none of my programs don't compile - I only put it in for the rhyme. Honest. ;-)

Ah...just say 'puter' and I'm there reading it! This was a fun piece.
Phil Alexander - July 07, 2004 - Report this comment
Adagio - a 'puter': is that a computer without any COM ports?

Hmm... that COM-puter joke reminds me of this similar one: If con is the opposite of pro, then what is the opposite of progress?
Adagio - July 07, 2004 - Report this comment
Hehe, Phil...didn't think of that...'a 'puter': is that a computer without any COM ports?'

Very funny and very well written. I was cracking up reading the second half of it; it was so funny.
