Well, I've long since retired, my son's moved away, I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you, if you don't mind".
He said, "I'd love to dad, if I can find the time.
You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu,
but it was sure nice talking to you dad, it's sure nice talking to you".
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
he's grown up just like me,
my boy was just like me.
The entire song is about a father and son who can't find time to slow down. The father had to run around in the first two verses, then the son became busier than him!

You say you should have been a ballerina babe
There are songs I should have sung
But I guess are dreams have come and gone
You've got to dream when you are young
And so you and I
We've watched our years go by
We've watched our sweet dreams fly far away
This song has an upbeat tempo and a pleasant clarinet part, but the song is about missed opportunities, compromising on ambitions, and regret.
