"Le Freak"
Misheard Lyrics: Le freak, say sheik
Freak out Original Lyrics: Le freak, c'est chic
Freak out |
Story about this misheard lyric by: Craig Johnson This isn't so much as a misheard lyric; no, it's more of a mistranslated lyric. The word, "c'est" sounds like "say" and the word, "chic" sounds like sheik. |

"Le Freak"
The Dated Lyrics: Just come on down to the 54
Why They're Dated: While Studio 54 still exists, it's now a Broadway theater rather than a disco nightclub.

| "Le Freak"
The Lyrics: A-a-a-a-ah! Freak out! Le freak, c'est chic Freak out!
Why: The 1978 #1 (for six weeks) Chic tune, "Le Freak" was a very memorable Disco tune, so memorable in fact that "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" declared it the top Disco of all time back on July 4, 1979. And it has stood the test of time for being a highly used party tune, if not Disco tune. Chic was produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards and was a two man, two woman group with other session musicians. Originally "Le Freak" started out with the working title of "Fuck Off!", then "Freak Off!" and finally developed into "Le Freak" after Rodgers visited France. In the title of the tune and in the main chorus, as I've listed above, "Le" is the French masculine version of "The" (as translated into English) and "c'est chic" is translated from French into English as "It is smart" (the groups name Chic was translated into English as "Smart").
